Swiss emo rockers COLD READING release new video for their song “Books & Comfort”; new LP coming soon on KROD Records!

Switzerland based indie emo rockers COLD READING have released an anthemic new single and music video called ‘Books & Comfort’, a solid forerunner of their forthcoming ‘Sojourner’ EP, coming on September 22nd via KROD Records! The quartet presents a shape-shifting sound through their dynamic arrangements as delicate vocals intertwine with powerful guitars and driving drums. Taking influences from bands such as Brand New, Thrice and From Indian Lakes, ‘Books & Comfort’ is an offering of the vehement kind; showcasing a band with a passion for profound lyrics and an earnest yet unpredictable blend of timbres.

Vocalist Mike Portmann explains the singles origins:

“The song is about the deep desire to slip in another body and be somebody else. Sometimes you wake up and feel like all your problems can be solved by running away. But as a matter of fact, this is just an illusion. Eventually, it all comes down to learning how to deal with your weaknesses and fears and trying to change them into something good in order to find comfort.”

In late 2015 Cold Reading released their debut album “Fractures & Fragments” via Flix Records (MxPx, Heartsounds, Bangers etc.). The release has seen the band touring all over Europe and the UK supporting bands like Such Gold, Little You Little Me, The Deadnotes and opening for the likes of Four Year Strong, The Hotelier, The Flatliners and The Get Up Kids.

Lyrics:

Did you ever dream about being somebody else
And looking at your former self wondering who you are?
It’s like watching a movie and seeing yourself grow
While repeating those mistakes again and again
I’m growing old but I still feel like I’m stuck here with nowhere to hide
I’m growing old but I still need to say: It’s okay and I don’t need to run.
You say hold your head up high but I think you are just pretending to look good and
so self-confident.
Now I see it’s the time to stop complaining about me
It’s so easy to fall back down as I always did before
But now I see the time has come to start with this now.
You’re growing old but you haven’t learned a thing
I think you are still running from yourself
I’m growing old but I still need to say: It’s okay and I’ll find comfort in myself.
Now I see the time has come to write a new chapter
It’s so easy to scroll back to page one
But now I will set it straight and start with this now.
Your sadness – is holding me back
but I will never be the same
Your pulling – please let me go
cause I will never be the same
