Punk and skateboarding have been intertwined for decades and by having the same DIY, rebelious attitude, it always had this natural magnetism. Many great bands included skating as an important facet of their projects, but most of them are now well experienced vets of the scene, with the same energy running mostly through their veins, not necessarily heavy skateboarding bodies. With members aged between 14 and 17, Vermont based GONE WRONG look like they have both energized youth and raw skateboarding embedded in their DNA and are a great remembrance of what punk is.
The Element Skateboards sponsored quartet have been raising a lot of eyebrows lately (check out their Thrasher Magazine feature here and below) and this Spring they are putting out their ripping debut EP All Your Rage, on CD via State of Mind Recordings, tape from Get Stoked! Records (SOLD OUT) and 7″ Vinyl from Blind Rage Records. To celebrate, we have teamed up for a new song premiere below, spiced up with the band’s first-hand commentary.
They put the system into education and every one is put into that system. It doesn’t matter what you believe at first because the system tells you what to believe. Theyβll force you to learn with grades and then tell us to be curious. Theyβll do everything for us and scold us if we’re not self directed enough. Theyβll put us in a dull, boring environment, tell us exactly what to do and expect us to still be creative when they want. We’re punished for being who we are, and rewarded for being the way they want us to be. Their careless of the way we want to be. They must think we’re all just children with the inability to have real opinions and intentions so they treat us all like idiots. School is where you can express your opinion, but it’s not valued and it wonβt change anything.
New Song Lyrics:
School so systematic they canβt let me be
They have to monitor everything
They say they want to educate but they just want control
Theyβll take my thoughts turn it into theirs
Took my curiosity told me to be curious
Took my self direction told be to self directed
Took creativity told me to be creative
Took my spirit and told it to die
Canβt walk in the halls without a special pass
Teachers yell at me when I run to fast
Time in detention and talks with teachers for discipline
But their not my so why should I listen
Why
Five days a week seven hours a day
Just enough to move my brain away

Almost all of the lyrics in the record were written in school so a lot of the songs revolve around that. Other songs talk about racism and police. These are all the good songs we’ve made presented so people can get lyrics for shows.

Donβt know if they’ll be rescheduled but they better be for the sake of our sanity.

There’s the people who donβt understand, they tell us to go to the park when we’re in the streets, get mad at us cause we’re part of something they think is lower than them, theyβll criticize the graffiti on the wall cause it’s not official so they have no control over it. Of course they like the music, it no longer inspires action so its just kids βdoing something specialβ.
There’s the people who think they understand, one of them fought Axel then went to one of our shows to fight him again, some of them try to hang out with us cause they think theyβll get some sort of complement out of it. They’re no fun.
Without them the scene is sick with lots of college kids at shows ready to mosh (though they donβt really know how) the skate scene is very bright, lots of cool people.
