The Callous Daoboys (interviewed for IDIOTEQ at this location) are rewriting the equation of chaos with their latest album, I Don’t Want to See You in Heaven. This mathcore odyssey is a sonic blueprint of raw emotion and precision—a future relic inviting you 300 years ahead to decipher its brutal narrative.
Following the seismic impact of Celebrity Therapist (2022) and the boundary-shattering EP God Smiles Upon The Callous Daoboys (2023, A2IM Libera Awards nominee for Best Heavy Record), this record is their most intimate, meticulously calculated work yet.
As vocalist Carson Pace puts it: “The album is an artifact that’s been preserved, and hundreds of years in the future, you’re listening to this album in the museum. It’s a known failure, but the narrative is ‘if it survives forever, is it truly a failure?’ Everything is very singular and personal. This snapshot of ages 24-27 is a scrapbook of trial and error—a Museum of Failure.”
Every one of the 13 tracks is a complex equation—a series of sonic puzzles and irregular time signatures that defy expectations. The opening exhibit, Two-Headed Trout/The Demon of Unreality Limping Like A Dog, dissects extremes with a violent shift from intricate rock riffs to chaotic metalcore breakdowns. Carson Pace teases:
“These two pieces do not represent a thesis or mission statement of the collection, but rather two extremities. If you’re a fan of us as a rock band, I have good news for you. If you’re a fan of us as a chaotic metalcore band, I have GREAT news for you. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Enjoy.”
Every riff is a calculated burst of raw emotion and technical brilliance, mirroring the album’s core theme: embracing the inherent beauty in imperfection and the raw energy of failure. The cover art amplifies this dialogue—its surreal, dystopian visuals are as much a part of the narrative as the music itself, blurring the line between intimate memoir and futuristic artifact.
