Thoughts & Prey,” the first single from Orlando-based punk/hardcore trio Our Escape’s forthcoming second album Who to Blame?, hits streaming platforms and arrives with a full music video at the end of this month.

The new track critiques the powers that fuel and profit from war, delivering pointed commentary through heavy riffs, fuzz-laden bass lines, and raw vocals. It’s a continuation of the band’s penchant for weaving social and political undercurrents into their music without losing sight of catchy hooks and bold experimentation.

Formed in 2018 and featuring Mark Neville on drums, Zach Waite on guitar and lead vocals, and Brian Jett on bass, Our Escape blends old-school influences like AFI and Snapcase with a modern, experimental edge reminiscent of The Refused and Comeback Kid.

Their self-titled debut, released through Havoc Underground in October 2019, introduced this dynamic style, and the upcoming Who to Blame?—slated for early 2025—builds on that foundation. The band’s live shows, defined by structured chaos and moments of spontaneous improvisation, foster a sense of unity that keeps people returning for more.

Thoughts & Prey” reflects the group’s focus on societal critique, pairing aggressive energy with lyrics that confront ignorance, systemic wrongs, and the destructive righteousness that festers in times of conflict. There’s a tongue-in-cheek edge to their commentary, but underneath it all is a sense of hope—an invitation to recognize these issues and break free from harmful cycles.

Below are the official lyrics.

“Thoughts and Prey” lyrics

Tempers rise as the temperature rises
I think the queen has left the hive behind
Now we’re gonna see what you’re made of
On your feet or knees you’re still stuck in line

Tempers rise as the temperature rises
I know the queen has left the hive behind
Do you know what you came here for
Another case of buyer’s remorse

Machine and man born anew divine
Servants pledge allegiance to the swine
Do you know what you’re looking for
Cat’s got you by the mother tongue of control

Embrace the bloodlust
Cheer on the fate
Enjoy the show of calamity

Is this what they call divinity

Embrace the bloodlust
Cheer on the fate
Enjoy the show of catastrophe

Is this what they call divinity

They never needed to divide by force
Just amplify the righteous voice
They never needed to divide by force
Just amplify the righteous voice

Tempers rise as the temperature rises
I know the queen has left the hive behind
Do you know what you’re looking for
Another case of buyer’s remorse

Machine and man born anew divine
Servants pledge allegiance to the swine
Do you know what you came here for
Cat’s got you by the mother tongue of control
