Portland’s wild punks, HELP, are back at it, shaking things up with their latest music video for “The Consequence“.
If you’ve followed HELP, you know their sound rips straight through the fabric of a broken world, and this video is no exception.
Directed by James Rexroad and edited by Daniel Fickle, it’s a visual punch that mirrors the band’s raw energy, their anti-establishment ethos, and the themes in their EP Courage.
Ryan Neighbors (guitar/vocals), Morty (bass), and Bim Ditson (drums) formed HELP as a response to the crumbling world around them, bringing punk energy that’s visceral and unflinching. Neighbors, who previously played with PORTUGAL. THE MAN and his electronic project HUSTLE AND DRONE, sums it up well: “Everyone is angry. Make some art about it.”
With Courage, HELP taps into the destructive nature of growth—be it emotional or societal. It’s a breakup album at its core, one where Neighbors and Ditson’s personal lives were falling apart, and that vulnerability seeps into every track. Yet, the band refuses to dwell in despair alone, offering their raw emotions as an invitation for others to connect and feel freely. “It’s one of the last freedoms we get to enjoy in this crumbled world,” they say.
If you’re still curious about the band, we ran an in-depth feature on HELP at the end of August, which you should definitely check out if you haven’t already. It’s got more insights into their work and even a special list of Ryan Neighbors’ top fast food favorites.
