Wrocław, Poland’s TORN SHORE is a new band featuring members of OBJECTS and BORDERLINE COLLIE. These guys popped up early this year and have already a bunch of dedicated followers, who loved their tunes at first hear. It’s fast, a bit chaotic, very natural, beautifully raw and leaves almost no desire unfulfilled. They may not be on anyone’s screen yet, but there’s clearly no reason why you shouldn’t check ’em out and feel really satisfied in neverending pleasure of listens.

[PL] Hey guys! At last, young Polish blood on IDIOTEQ! I’m really glad you’re here. Let’s start off with a little introduction explaining who you are and what do we need to know about you.
[EN] Hej, Panowie! W końcu jakaś świeża krew z Polski na łamach IDIOTEQ. Bardzo się cieszę. Powiedzcie skąd jesteście i co trzeba o Was wiedzieć?
[EN] Hello! First of all, thank you for your interest – we’re very happy to contribute. We are TORN SHORE from Wroclaw, Poland. We play/have played in such bands as OBJECTS, DEAD DINGO, PERSPECTO, BORDERLINE COLLIE, FALL BEHIND. We also have some other additional projects in the making. We’ve just recorded our debut album called “Savage”. It was mixed/mastered by our friend Grin aka Haldor Grunberg at Satanic Audio.
[PL] Dzięki za zainteresowanie, bardzo nam miło. Jesteśmy Torn Shore z Wrocławia. Oprócz TS możecie nas znać z OBJECTS, DEAD DINGO, PERSPECTO, BORDERLINE COLLIE, lub FALL BEHIND, jako że równolegle angażujemy się w różne projekty muzyczne. Właśnie nagraliśmy nasz debiutancki album “Savage”, którego mix i master wykonał nasz przyjaciel Grin aka Haldor Grunberg z Satanic Audio.
[EN] Speaking about your previous projects, tell me what status they currently have? Are you still involved in other bands in the meantime?
[PL] Skoro mowa o Waszych poprzednich projektach, to powiedzcie – jaki mają status? Działacie gdzieś równolegle do TORN SHORE?
[EN] Dawid: Some of them work and are doing fine, while other, like FALL BEHIND and OBJECTS, are long time gone.
PERSPECTO, as well as BORDERLINE COLLIE, are working on a new material. AGORAFOBIA’s debut album is soon to be released by Music Is The Weapon. DEAD DINGO is working hard and playing shows. MOTOGRADO is a newcomer rock n’ roll band past first shows.[PL] Dawid: Niektóre zespoły działają i mają się dobrze, inne nie – nie funkcjonują już OBJECTS i FALL BEHIND.
PERSPECTO jest obecnie w trakcie tworzenia nowego materiału, podobnie zresztą jak BORDERLINE COLLIE. AGORAFOBIA zadebiutuje wkrótce wydawnictwem w Music Is The Weapon. DEAD DINGO działa i koncertuje, a MOTORGRADO to nowy rock n’ rollowy projekt świeżo po pierwszych koncertach.
[EN] And I thought you’d say „FALL BEHIND: Reunion!” :) Considering Polish punk scene, do you believe there is a place and time for a reunion like this? Would it be possible to resurrect such crazy parties as FALL BEHIND’s gigs in Nemo or countless bashes hosted by SUNRISE?
[PL] A już myślałem, że powiecie „FALL BEHIND: Reunion!” :) Myślicie, że na polskiej scenie hardcore punk jest miejsce i dobry klimat na tego typu reaktywacje? Byłaby szansa dzisiaj wskrzesić takie balety jak FALL BEHIND w Nemo, czy niezliczone rozpierduchy SUNRISE?
[EN] Łukasz: FALL BEHIND is a closed chapter. We sort of stay in touch and all, but everyone chose their own path and there’s no coming back. It would be impossible for us now to find the essence which fueled the band 7 years ago.
As for SUNRISE’s reunion – that would be a gig of the year.[PL] Łukasz: FALL BEHIND to zdecydowanie zamknięty rozdział. Każdy z nas poszedł swoją drogą i pomimo tego, że nadal pozostajemy w kontakcie, to nie ma szans na powrót. Myślę, że esencja tego, co napędzało nasz zespół 7 lat temu, byłaby dziś niemożliwa do wskrzeszenia. Natomiast co do reunionu SUNRISE – ponieważ mogę się do tego zdystansować – uważam, że taka akcja z pewnością stałaby się wydarzeniem roku.
[EN] Alright, so back to your current endeavors, for all the unaware, please shoot us a brief introduction to Maq Records.
[PL] Ok, wracając do Waszych nowych poczynań. Zróbcie proszę jakiś wstęp dla tych, którym nazwa Maq Records nic nie mówi.
[EN] Maq Records is a recording studio in Wojkowice (near Katowice), where Haldor often realizes his projects. We’ve been there for 2,5 days during the Xavier hurricane. We’ve spent one day recording and the second one mixing. Great joint, good times, very productive and fun cooperation with Haldor, pizza 3 times a day, black coffee, shit loads of beer, youtube party, KRAFTWERK and… Kanye West. We highly recommend this combination!
[PL] Maq Records to studio nagraniowe w Wojkowicach (pod Katowicami), gdzie Haldor często realizuje swoje projekty. Spędziliśmy tam 2,5 dnia podczas huraganu Xavier, jednego dnia nagrywając, a drugiego miksując materiał. Świetne miejsce, super czas, bardzo owocna współpraca z Haldorem, pizza trzy razy dziennie, czarna kawa, sporo piwa, youtube party, KRAFTWERK i… Kanye West. Zdecydowanie polecamy tę kombinację!
[EN] Nice! Are there more tracks left after the session?
[PL] Nieźle! Zostało Wam trochę kawałków z sesji?
[EN] Sure! The whole material is ready and has just found a label. We’re getting ready for some gigs and also started making some new stuff in the meantime.
[PL] Jasne! Cały materiał jest gotowy i znalazł już wydawcę. W międzyczasie zaczęliśmy też pisać nowe kawałki i przygotowujemy się do koncertów.
[EN] You’ve released a nice video for the track ”Savage”. Where and who made this picture?
[PL] Nagraliście bardzo fajny klip do „Savage”. Gdzie i z kim nagrywaliście?
[EN] Thanks! We’ve realized the video locally, in Wrocław. The thing is, ¾ of TORN SHORE is into visual work, both professionally and privately (video/photography/graphic design), so the “Savage” video is a 100% DIY production. As for the clip, the main props go to our vocalist – Wilk.
[PL] Dzięki! Klip nagraliśmy lokalnie we Wrocławiu. Prawda jest taka, że ¾ składu TORN SHORE zajmuje się zawodowo i prywatnie projektowaniem graficznym, fotografią oraz filmem, więc klip to w 100% produkcja DIY. Największe propsy należą się w tym temacie naszemu wokaliście – Wilkowi.
[EN] Why ”Savage”? Will there be more cinematics for your tracks?
[PL] Dlaczego ten numer? Będzie więcej wizualizacji Waszych kawałków?
[EN] There’s been a reason for picking “Savage” for the first video. We perceive the whole album in terms of a certain concept and that’s one of the key elements. Currently, we’re not planning any music videos, but who knows, maybe we’ll change our minds.
[PL] Wybór „Savage” to rodzaj konceptualnego zabiegu, demonstrującego naszą wrodzoną niepokorność. Jeśli chodzi o inne klipy – aktualnie nic nie planujemy, ale niewykluczone, że zmienimy zdanie.
[EN] Does this concept relate to your future releases, or rather the form of promotion for your debut record?
[PL] Koncept dotyczy kolejnych wydawnictw, czy raczej formy promocji Waszego debiutu?
[EN] We’re focusing on the debut album right now.
[PL] Póki co, skupiamy się na debiucie.
[EN] So you do believe people will be putting more money into music? Don’t you think the new era of digital music and omnipresent “free downloads” will eventually take that away from musicians? By the way, how do you see this new reality? Do you remember those analog times? ;)
[PL] Czyli wierzycie, że ludzie nadal będą wkładać pieniądze w muzykę? Nie sądzicie, że era cyfrowej muzyki i wszędobylskie „free downloads” zabiorą ostatnie szanse na wykładanie kasy przez słuchaczy? Swoją drogą, jak odnajdujecie się w tej rzeczywistości? Pamiętacie czasy analogowe? ;)
[EN] Dawid: I think that the analogue goodies are still very popular. They’re more of a collectors’ choice than usable things, because we all use our computers most of the time. However, vinyls, cassettes and cd’s are being released in such an awesome way comprised of great designs and artwork these days that they still provide a treat for music fans. On the one hand, the digitalisation killed the mass production of analogue goods, but on the other it made way for the super quality of the actual releases which is very tempting for the fans, I guess. Such item stands for a pretty piece of stuff on your shelf, you know. What differs IMO is the buying action itself. As for myself – I usually buy a record from the band right after the show. Being able to buy it from an artist that impressed you a lot with his performance few minutes ago is a very valuable thing for me and surely get’s remembered.
The digital reality for me? If it’s the music accessibility you’re asking about – it’s great stuff for me. Sharing creativity is the best thing that can happen to humans, haha. However, you need to stay hygienic and dose your access to everything so that you could benefit from it. If you’re taking too much – it becomes just white noise, sea of files, nothing important.
To sum up, we were born in the 80’s, so we all remember the analogue days – brick-shaped Sony Walkmans, “Takt” records and films like “Spies Like Us” from the small VHS rental joint etc.[PL] Dawid: Analogowe wydawnictwa wciąż cieszą się powodzeniem. Mają w tej chwili raczej status kolekcjonerski, bo i tak większość ludzi słucha muzyki najczęściej z kompa lub odtwarzacza mp3, ale mimo tego płyty, kasety i winyle są w tej chwili wydawane w tak zajebisty sposób, że w dalszym ciągu stanowią gratkę dla fanów. Myślę, że masowość produkcji nośników analogowych – poprzez cyfryzację i dostępność – została zastąpiona wysoką jakością ich wydawania, co sprzyja statusowi kolekcjonerskiej wartości takich nośników. Inna jest też, według mnie, metoda samego kupna – ja zazwyczaj kupuję płyty bezpośrednio po koncertach. To bardzo wartościowa rzecz móc kupić coś bezpośrednio od kogoś, kto wywarł na tobie mocne wrażenie. Przy okazji pojawia się też ponownie aspekt kolekcjonerski. Jeśli natomiast chodzi o odnajdowanie się w rzeczywistości cyfrowej i dostępność muzyki – dla mnie osobiście to świetna sprawa, głównie ze względu na możliwość dzielenia się z ludźmi kreatywnością. Oczywiście trzeba zachować umiar i dozować ten dostęp, żeby móc z niego racjonalnie korzystać, ale ogólnie rzecz biorąc to znakomity pomysł. Urodziliśmy się w latach 80-tych, więc doskonale pamiętamy czasy analogowe – walkmany Sony, nagrania firmy TAKT, filmy typu “Szpiedzy tacy jak my” z wypożyczalni na skwerku itd.
[EN] True that, Sir! Golden Times! :) And regarding record collections and analog technologies, your followers are already begging for TORN SHORE merch through social media and online message boards. Is it already being organized at your fireside?
[PL] Zgadza się! Złote czasy! :) A propos kolekcjonowania i analogowych przyjemności, widzę, że na forach i w social media ludzie już wołają o Wasz merch. Drukujecie, tłoczycie, dziergacie coś już w domowym zaciszu?
[EN] We plan something special due to the album release – of course some textile goods are also being considered accordingly.
[PL] Z okazji premiery przygotowujemy coś wyjątkowego – stosowne tekstylia również są w planach.
[EN] Ok gentlemen, let’s move on to one of the most important aspects of your “business”. How do you feel about touring and how many gigs have you already played?
[PL] Ok, Panowie, jedna z ważniejszych kwestii, jeśli chodzi o Wasze przedsięwzięcie – koncerty! Jak podchodzicie do tej części Waszej działalności i ile imprez udało Wam się dotychczas zagrać?
[EN] TORN SHORE is a brand new thing and we’re just getting started. Not all of us are on the spot right now, so we’re waiting until everyone is back to Poland and soon we’re going to start.
[PL] TORN SHORE to zupełnie nowa rzecz i dopiero ruszamy. W tej chwili nie wszyscy jesteśmy na miejscu, więc czekamy, aż cały skład pojawi się z powrotem w kraju i zaczynamy.
[EN] What shows do you have already lined up? What are your plans?
[PL] Jakieś konkretne daty są już zabookowane? Jakie macie plany?
[EN] It’s all plans for now so we’d prefer not to release them yet. Though you can be sure we’re going to inform everyone as soon as they’ll be confirmed and booked. For now, feel invited to our gig on 17th May at Ciemna Strona Miasta Club (Wrocław) – we’ll be playing with two awesome crews: HARD TO BREATHE and MARKSMAN.
[PL] Otóż to – na razie są to plany, więc lepiej nie zapeszać. Na pewno poinformujemy o szczegółach, jeśli uda nam się je potwierdzić. Póki co zapraszamy 17.05. do Ciemnej Strony Miasta (Wrocław) na gig w doborowym towarzystwie. Oprócz nas wystąpią HARD TO BREATHE i MARKSMAN.
