UK punk rock band THE YOUNG HEARTS are releasing their new captovating single ‘Old Familiar’ on music streaming platforms tomorrow, and we’re stoked to give you the early stream of the video today, right here!
‘Old Familiar’ marks the second single and video from their upcoming album ’The Modern State’. The band recently became the first band to sign to new UK label Year Of The Rat Records and received coverage with Kerrang, Rock Sound, Alt Press, Triple J, BBC, 89FM, Dead Press and many other respected publications. The Young Hearts have been compared to The Gaslight Anthem and Wonder Years previously and have shared stages with Can’t Swim, Mallory Knox, Junior and many more. The band have a busy touring schedule planned for the remainder of 2020 with bands such as Waco, Burnt Tapes and 13 Crowes.
Asked about the meaning of the new hit track, the band commented:
“Old Familiar was a song that came together really quickly, and even in the early stages, we knew it was going to be a single. There are certain aspects of The Young Hearts that have changed over the years, especially with our newer songs, but we still want to write upbeat rock anthems that can strike a chord with our listeners.
Lyrically it’s about friendships, the ones that will forever stand up against the challenges of life as you get older, and your priorities have to adapt. You may not see or speak to those people all the time, but they’re always there for you, and when you do get together it’s like nothing ever changed.
We were determined to make sure that the concept of the video directly related to the theme of the song, so we thought we’d capture a night out but with a twist. I think it’s one of the most interesting videos we’ve done and it was certainly the most fun to make.”
Old Familiar lyrics:
You haven’t been back home for a while
Despite what you said I know that you missed it
Cause I missed it to
And you haven’t been yourself lately
I know that you’ve had your reasons
And it hasn’t been easy for youDoes it mirror the fire we once believed in
Just tell me it’s close enough to feelDo you wish you’d stayed sometimes
Does it burn you up inside
If it means anything
I’d say you’re doing just fine
And if you came back now
We’d have so much to talk about
We’ve been so lost now for a long while
But it’s a pretty good night to get rightYou told me that you needed a change
And I don’t blame you, there’s something about this place
I guess I needed you to prove me right
Cause somebody told me
We get lucky sometimesDoes it mirror the fire we once believed in
Just tell me it’s close enough to feelDo you wish you’d stayed sometimes
Does it burn you up inside
If it means anything
I’d say you’re doing just fine
And if you came back now
We’d have so much to talk about
We’ve been so lost now for a long while
But it’s a pretty good night to get rightWe were never meant to be afraid
On a Saturday night you’d say
So let’s pick up where we started
In that same old familiar way
Cause nothing lasts forever
And those wounds will fade away
They’ll fade away
