Wax Jaw is back with their new single, “Boy’s Life,” releasing October 18, 2024, via Born Losers Records.
This track carries an important message from frontman Shane Morgan, who digs deep into his personal experience as a queer trans masculine individual.
As Shane puts it, “‘Boy’s Life’ tells my story as a queer trans masculine person, embracing my own truth and struggling to be accepted in a world that uses the queer community as a political chess piece. I channeled my own gay rage to communicate in this song that I refuse to be a pawn for someone else’s hypocritical gain.”
The song blends classic punk energy with a touch of new wave and the kind of skate-surf vibe that makes you want to move. It’s raw, direct, and unapologetic, fitting perfectly with Wax Jaw’s high-octane live shows that have been making waves since their debut. WXPN summed it up well, calling them “a punchy amalgam of classic punk and new wave with an undercurrent of surf/skate energy.”
Since the release of their debut EP Between the Teeth in October 2023, Wax Jaw has been on an upward trajectory, fueled by a combination of catchy, surf-infused punk tunes and an infectious energy that’s hard to resist. Their live shows are where they truly shine, often diving into the crowd with unbridled enthusiasm and keeping the adrenaline high for everyone in the room. Whether opening for psych-rock giants like Wine Lips or punk icons like Bad Nerves, Wax Jaw has earned a reputation for bringing the heat. Post-Punk.com even described them as “a steadfast indie pop ensemble that demands your undivided attention.”
Formed in the Philadelphia scene, Wax Jaw came together through the friendship of bassist Greg Blanc and guitarist Sean Vannata. Their shared vision of creating lively, upbeat music quickly found its footing, and the band rapidly gained traction with the release of their debut. It wasn’t long before they were selling out shows across the U.S. and Canada, signing with Abandon Everything Records, and playing alongside some serious heavy hitters in the indie and punk worlds.
Wax Jaw gear up for a run of live shows, including stops at Underground Arts in Philadelphia and The Bowery Ballroom in New York City, Wax Jaw’s fiery blend of punk, new wave, and surf energy is bound to leave a lasting impression.
