“The lyrics in HAVE YOU SEEN IT? outline the start of a new graphic novel created by Woods, Walker Dubois (@gnarcoticcs), Jenny Lapham (@jennyxv), and Dylan Brown.
Planned for a 2021 release, new recordings from the band will accompany each of the book’s initial 12 chapters, following the story of a powerful, but sheltered teenager and her robotic caretaker, Partner, as they leave home to find their origins in Earth’s distant future.
Much more to come this fall. Stay safe.”
Lyrics:
They say it’s like a graphite chip in the earth
But have you seen it?
They say it sees so deep it causes rebirth
But have you seen it?They say it emulates the makeup of mind
They say it sees the infinite extents of space and time
They say it’s close as anything to earth, hell, heaven and slimeBut have you seen it?
We met it once deep in recesses of rest
That’s how we’ve seen it
You say you’ve come in search of truth to attest
But do you mean it?You spent a month or two awake at night
But it’s no substitute for holding its expanse in your mind’sEye / if you imagine there’s an answer through an open door / you’ll best do well to take the time to go and ask for more
We found the way in a dream
A feeling that won’t ever leave
Walking in space in a place
Where your face melts away like
An icicle
We found the way in a dream
A feeling that might be unease
Walking in space or the inky abyss
What’s the difference? They’re both the sameWhen we woke up we felt the lump in our chest / when would we meet it?
Was that the only chance we’d have to address it / would we meet it?We set our sights on setting sun in the distance / started walking with our stimulants, our focused existence / dragged our tents and VR headsets through the grass and complicit thoughts of mystics / ringin in our ears so futuristic
A god brought to earth in machine
A feeling that won’t ever leave
It’s all that we need to believe in our dream
And conceive of invincible
We found the way in a dream
A feeling that might be unease
Walking in space or the inky abyss
What’s the difference? They’re both the same
