Plymouth based rock trio WOAHNOWS are pleased to reveal a brand new video for ‘Puncher’ alongside announcing a short run of US tour dates which begin tonight (21st October) in Philadelphia, to coincide with their appearance at Florida’s FEST on 1st November 2015. ‘Puncher’ is the second video taken from the debut album ‘Understanding, And Everything Else’ released earlier this year on Big Scary Monsters Records and is available to purchase here. Since the album’s release in May they’ve been touring hard around the UK and EU with the likes of Beach Slang, Lemuria, Gnarwolves and Personal Best and played a whole heap of festivals.
Front man Tim Rowing-Parker comments on the track; “The song is about self-frustration. The way you feel when you fall back in to old negative behaviours you’d hoped you’d grown out of. I got frustrated at something stupid like my computer at home, punched myself in the head and then had to jump straight on my bike to sit next to the sea to calm down. That’s where I wrote all the lyrics in one go, before I was calm enough to go back home. I thought I was past that stuff, but every now and then things bubble up and remind you that you’re just not ‘there’ yet.”
WOAHNOWS have a knack of sounding effortlessly upbeat and positive, but that doesn’t mean the same sentiment is always reflected lyrically. If anything, it lulls you into a false sense of security thinking everything’s just fine, when we all know it isn’t.
Praise for the band has been pouring in from DIY, The 405, Upset Magazine, London In Stereo, Artrocker, Clash Magazine, Rock Sound, Kerrang and plenty more with airplay from the likes of BBC Radio One, Radio X (XFM) and BBC6 Music – their debut may have been tipped by many as the “sound of the summer” but you don’t have to look too far to find darker undertones.
