Young Widows return with Power Sucker, their first new album in 11 years. The Louisville, Kentucky trio has announced a release date of March 21, 2025, and they’ve already shared a new track, “Call Bullshit.”
“The sounds, songs, and passages within Power Sucker are the very reason that Young Widows are still a band after an 11-year creative pause; they remain masters at making music with equal parts sonic and emotional weight,” the band states.
They describe this fifth studio album as full of “sizzling guitars, growling bass, and lock-tight drums” that build on the collage of noise-rock, hardcore, and post-punk that has inspired many underground artists.
Power Sucker comes with a limited edition metallic silver and opaque blue swirl vinyl (1,000 copies) and custom die-cut packaging. The 13 tracks—“The Darkest Side,” “Every Bone,” “Call Bullshit,” “Exit Slowly,” “Power Sucker,” “Turned Out Alright,” “Balloon,” “The Holy Net,” “Total Fucking Clarity,” “Take Get Lost,” “Falling Bullet,” “A Life in Tow,” and “Hotel of Crows”—were put together by musicians who have been recognized for their “precision and style,” ensuring that once these parts mesh, they create a distinct sonic identity.
According to the band, “Historical accomplishments aside, Power Sucker has the shock and wonder of a new band’s debut album,” yet it’s also the product of “three passionate lifers once again sharing their undying love for the art of sound. No one and no thing can take those powers away.”
