Avant-garde experimentalists KIP unveil new abstract variations on unconventional music; share inspirations

Over three years since our last special feature, Israeli noisy post rock experimentalists KIP are back with new mind-bending LP called “Songs of Love”, uncovering even more unusual and eerie soundscapes to get immersed in. The 4-tracker clocks in at good 40 minutes of various experiments and adds more layers to the experience, effectively transforming it in a deep, multi-style, almost psychedelic audio adventure. To celebrate its recent release, we have teamed up with the band to give you a special listing of their choice, giving you a proper dose of experimental music recommendations, with 9 songs and albums worth an in-depth study.

Kruzenshtern & Parohod (Russian: Крузенштерн и Пароход) is a Russophone Israel klezmer-rock band from Tel Aviv, created in 2002. Its style is variously branded as “experimental jazz”, “klezmercore” (a pun on “hardcore”), “ethno jazz”, “avant-garde”.

The name of the band is a pun immediately recognizable by all post-Soviet Russophones. In Russia (as well as in other Russophone places), a fictional steamship “Admiral Ivan Fyodorovich Kruzenshtern” from the popular Prostokvashino animated film series is very well known, often as part of a catch phrase “Admiral I.F.Kruzenshtern, a man and a steamship”, “pirated” from the title of a requiem poem by Vladimir Mayakovsky, To Comrade Nette, a Man and a Steamship. The fictional steamship is named after a Russian admiral and explorer Adam Johann von Krusenstern, as is since 1946 a real sailing ship, the Kruzenshtern. Parohod means “steamboat” in Russian.

Deerhoof – ‘’O Ye Saddle Babes’’ – Future Teenage Cave Artists 2020

Вот уже много лет эта группа не перестает удивлять. Особенно радует работа над звуком. Трек который удивляет своими находками и очень вкусным звуком

This band doesn’t stop surprising for years now. Especially their work with sound. This track surprises with its findings and a very tasty sound.

Gazelle Twin – ‘’Better In My Day’’ – PASTORAL

Elizabeth Walling (Gazelle Twin ) является одной из ярких и интересных представительниц Британской современной сцены . ‘’Better In My Day’’ Композиция ,после которой хочется послушать весь альбом.

Elizabeth Walling (Gazelle Twin) is one of the brightest and interesting representatives of the modern British scene. “Better In my day” is s peace after which you want to listen to the whole album

Neurosis ‘’ Lost’’ – Enemy of the sun 1994

Группа ,которая не нуждается в комментариях . Один из любимых альбомов!

A band that doesn’t need any commentary. One of my favorite albums.

Godflesh – ‘’Dogbite’’ – Decline and Fall EP 2014

Первый EP после 11 летнего молчания . Песня Dogbite’ возвращает в эпоху Английского индастриала 80/ 90ых .казалось бы – зачем играть музыку 90 ых в 2000 . Но Godflash это особый случай.

The first EP after 11 years of silence. “Dogbite” takes you back to 80s english industrial. You might think – why should they play 90s/80s music in the 00s, but Godflesh are a special case.

Lonnie Holley ‘’I Woke Up in a F****d -Up America ‘’ – MITH 2018

Modern mistic voodoo. Exceptional work. Best song on the album.

ARCA – ARCA 2017

It’s difficult to highlight one composition from this album. The album is perfect, if I may say so.

Show me the body ‘’Taxi Hell (Justin Flammia)’’ – Corpus 2017

If punk exists, then it’s Show me the body. A song that lacks any musical system or rule and that is extremely pleasing.

The Body – No One Deserves Happiness 2016

A band that doesn’t limit it self with frames. It’s better not to highlight a particular song but listen to the whole album.

Igor Krutogolov – 1970s Uzbek electronic music

I can probably talk about my own albums, right? Maybe someone will find it interesting. Maybe someone even might purchase a digital copy?
