“Fade”: post rock veterans GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT release new song & video

January 12, 2021
1 min read

One of the most iconic and highly acclaimed experimental instrumental post rock / post metal bands, Ireland’s GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT are teasing their 10th studio album, Ghost Tapes #10, out February 12 via Napalm Records, with a brand new song and music video created by Chariot Of Black Moth.

Since their beginnings around 20 years ago, the Irish four-man GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT has developed into one of the most well-known instrumental groups and has released Ghost Tapes # 10, his tenth studio album. Founded in 2002 by the brothers Niels and Torsten Kinsella, every piece of music that has brought the post-rock unit to life since then offers intense soundscapes that take the listener into an unearthly and emotional experience and immerse them in infinite spheres.

Ghost Tapes # 10 revives the classic line-up with Jamie Dean on piano and guitar and doesn’t pick up where the band left their listeners after the release of their 2018 album, Epitaph. Rather, the latest opus takes an approach that emphasizes movement and intensity. At the same time, Ghost Tapes # 10 is certainly the most furious work of the quartet to date, but still retains all the musical and emotional elements for which GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT are known. Moments full of radiant hope alternate playfully with harsh echoes, which pieces like “Burial”, “In Flux” or “Barren Earth”, with the support of Jimmy Scanlan, prove on the strings.

The atmospheric artwork comes from the pen of David Rooney, who has already worked with the band in the past. GHOST TAPES # 10 will be available as a 4 page digipack as well as in different, limited LP versions.

GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT

BraveWords comments: “The second single cut from Ghost Tapes #10 directly calls for action with an intense wall of sound, carried by a furious fuzzed bass line and a fast drum groove that culminates in a heavy, colossal apex. Keeping this energetic level on point, “Fade” comes to an end in an atmospheric and picturesque world of sounds to be discovered.”

“At 210 BPM, “Fade” is the fastest track that God Is An Astronaut has ever written. Starting off with a 10/8 time signature that fades into a 12/8 beat, the track is further proof of the band’s musical expertise. The song is illustrated by a dark and sinister black and white music video, created by Chariot Of Black Moth, which captures the intensity and showcases that “Fade” stands out among God Is An Astronaut’s former discography.”
