Fresh off the release of their new EP “Gloom”, Russian bleak post metallers MY LONELY SEA are welcomed to our pages with an out-of-the-bx commentary about inspirations for creatives paths, not necessarily focused on other artists or records.
“Gloom” strikes hard with an awesome post-black sound, grounded on a solid post metal foundation and spiced up with a proper dose of hardcore spirited energy. The EP just landed online and is available via Black Terror Records (streaming services (Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, Yt music, Yandex, Vk, Deezer.), and cassettes).
What is a man, brought to the limit, capable of,
facing the bottomless abyss of the unknown?
Hope would be the greatest strength if despair did not exist.
Nekich (Nikita, guitar): “I believe that my family and friends are good people who inspire with their kindness and understanding towards me, no matter how trite it may sound!”
“I am convinced that the creative comrades around me and the creative people in general (be it a colleague who knows how to do something with his own hands, favorite bands, our wonderful labels, a sound engineer or just my creative comrades) contribute to the desire to create something.”
“I think I am inspired by the place where I was born and raised. It is extremely unfriendly if you are from a more “civilized” part of the country, but it has its own flavor. Perhaps this helped people with certain points of contact to get together to play music that reflects our general mood.”
“I would like to note that I am inspired by our people who support our creativity. Without you there would be no us, and playing music only for yourself means leaving nothing behind. Thank you!”

Palych (Aleksey, vocal/bass): “What is inspiring for me in my creative path, I think life itself, even some elementary social moments of everyday life, since it does not pour out into bluegrass, but into something more oppressive. In this case, the dark or even negative aspects of life are the main source of inspiration. In general, I am inclined to think that such music is not played from a good life, I mean, music as a challenge, as a struggle, as compensation.”
“The initial localization of the collective definitely influenced the inspiration of the collective, its style, the harsh conditions of Siberia definitely and beneficially influence the creation of gloomy music, and the indescribable flavor of a provincial industrial hub, a set of military units and prisons certainly complements the pool of my inspiration.”
Sirota (Aleksey, vocal/drums) “What inspires me to be creative at MLS?”
“Firstly, these are strong feelings, no matter how trite it may sound, but melancholy itself helps me to play melancholic music, sometimes growing into depression. I confess that it is often difficult, because I want to forget some memories forever, although they served a special “mood” in the drum parts for a particular song.”
“Secondly, it is the desire for experimentation. Post-genres, as for me, froze in place, that is, structurally and harmoniously, almost all songs are the same, and no matter how loud it sounds, I want to get the music I play off the ground. Can be seen in percussion grooves and fillings from different genres of music. Perhaps someday MLS will become one of the foremost post-metal bands in the world :)”
“But oh well, it’s too early to think about it … there is always something to work on.”
