Revelation Records preserves hardcore history with 200th release, JUDGE’s legendary “Chung King Can Suck It”

1 min read

Revelation Records has officially announced its 200th release: a vinyl reissue of JUDGE’s Chung King Can Suck It. Originally pressed in 1989, this album represents a raw and unique piece of New York hardcore history.

The new edition features remastered audio, updated packaging, and a reversed-out version of the iconic album cover.

JUDGE recorded the original Chung King Can Suck It at Chung King Studios (known for hosting the BEASTIE BOYS and SLAYER) under challenging conditions: a tight budget, late-night sessions, and rotating interns. Dissatisfied with the results, Revelation Records founder Jordan Cooper made the decision to press only 100 copies on white vinyl before funding a re-recording that became the definitive Bringin’ It Down.

Despite the band’s dissatisfaction, Chung King Can Suck It evolved into a sought-after collector’s item. At its peak, it was the most valuable record on Discogs, fetching prices upwards of $8,000. Now remastered by Mike Kalajian at Rogue Planet Mastering, this release aims to bring new life to the original recording. The album includes two previously unreleased tracks: “I’m Holding On” and “No Apologies.”

The vinyl reissue boasts previously unseen photos by Jeffrey Ladd and four distinct pressing variants:

  • 1000 on translucent light blue
  • 700 on bone/purple marble (retail exclusive)
  • 250 on coke bottle clear/black marble (RevHQ exclusive)
  • 300 on pineapple (Generation Records/Coretex exclusive)

The record will be available on December 13, 2024, with preorders now live. Additionally, fans can stream the remastered version online.

The band, still active, recently wrapped up Northeast shows and is set to perform at the Revolution Calling Festival in Holland on November 23.
