A two-day music festival at Gothernburg’s Brew House will be held in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Swedish DIY metal/hardcore label Suicide Records, one of Europe’s most prolific underground music imprints. With its 10 performers, this dark and atmospheric spectacle will take place this coming weekend, on October 15th and 16th, and to celebrate, we have teamed up with the label to give you a short series of special features highlighting their associated acts.
We kick off with Gothenburg based band OROCHEN, who will play at the festival and Suicide Records will release their debut album “Anthroposcenic” early next year. Today, the band joins us to share their top live experiences and best new Scandinavian releases to look into!
The band’s 2020 EP Thylacine is all about encapsulating the feelings about today’s world and the internal struggle of our modern way of living. A four-track journey that builds up to the only thing that is certain – nothingness.
Orochen has refined their sound once again and this EP is the result of the bands constant search to find their own unique core and novel sound. The songs reach from tribal and folk to straight on rock and metal. On the EP´s last song, Orochen is guested by Alex Stjernfelt (Novarupta, Ex. Mr Death, Ex. Moth Gatherer) to give voice to the EP’s last breath.
The line-up of Suicide Records Fest 2021 includes Electric Hydra, Besvärjelsen, Demonic Death Judge, Orochen, V, Novarupta, Fredagen Den 13:e, Domkraft, and Grand Cadaver.
Best new Scandinavian releases in undegroun heavy music, by OROCHEN:
There is so much happening in the music scene right now, but here are a few.
Demonen will release their upcoming new album during the end of 2021. Really excited for it, and I think it is one of the most underestimated bands there is.
Link to the first single.
LLNN – Unmaker: Best album this year so far when it comes to metal. Super hard, from the beginning to the end.
Horndal – Lake Drinker: Really exciting album that sounds killer!
Novarupta – Carrion Movements: The new release that will drop in 2022. The first two albums were amazing, and it will be so exciting to explore this one when it hits the market.
Here is the second album.
10000 years – Their latest album II released earlier this year is one to remember and probably will make a lot of AOTY-lists.
Of course, our own album, “Anthroposcenic” that will be released during the beginning of 2022. Can’t wait to see how it will be received!
Best live performance acts, by OROCHEN:
“Live music is such an important part of our lives that have been lost during the pandemic” – says the band. “And our longing for live music is greater than ever before.”
“It’s a tough one, nut we will give it a shot.”
Sleep – live at Pioneer Works, New York, 2017
Such an amazing concert that took place in an old industry building. Loud and super heavy. The clip is from another visitor at the concert.
Cult of Luna – Every time, at every place
One of our most important bands. Deliverance every time. The movie is from a gig we didn’t visit though.
Neurosis – Pustervik – 2017/2018
First time we saw them live. This gig nearly created at least one heart attack. The video is from another visitor, and the sound quality is super bad.
Dillinger Escape Plan – Every time (but especially their farewell tour 2017)
The last tour of one of the best live bands ever. Super intense, and insanely good.
