London-based quartet NOVERE has never been a band to shy away from the depths of human emotion and psychological intricacies. Established in 2020 as a coalition of international musicians, their appetite for sonic exploration led them down the lesser-tread paths of Doom, Black Metal, and Post-Rock.
Their debut EP, “Soulless Elements,” released in December 2021, hinted at the sprawling atmospheres they were capable of creating. Fast forward to October 1, 2023, and we find them delving even deeper into the human psyche with their latest record, “Nothing Stays Hidden In Daylight.”
Recorded in March 2023 at No Studio in Manchester, the band collaborated with Joe Clayton of Pijn fame, a match that seems almost predestined given the thematic and sonic territories both entities occupy.
Mastering duties were entrusted to Magnus Lindberg, known for his work with Cult of Luna, at VRTKL Audio AB in Sweden. The result is a record that not only has an emotional core but also an aural polish, reflecting the precision and care that went into its making.
Built around the duality of light and darkness, the album serves as an audio-existential journey navigating through themes of suffering, lost love, mourning, and drug addiction. According to the band, “Nothing Stays Hidden In Daylight” aims to reveal “demons hidden deep inside of us—facing them and letting them out to find peace within.” This is not music for the faint of heart; it’s a soundtrack for confrontation, for standing face-to-face with one’s own fragility and fears.
From their sound, which could easily find a home alongside bands like Amenra, A Perfect Circle, and Mastodon, to their intellectual explorations, NOVERE have crafted an album that makes no compromise in its pursuit for authenticity.
“The four titles in the album represent four stages of an internal dialogue,” the band explains.
This psychological journey begins with the shattering realization of one’s flawed existence and culminates in the difficult but necessary acceptance of eternal torment.
With one of their new songs, “HYDRA,” now streaming, it’s clear that NOVERE is invested in taking both themselves and their listeners on an intense emotional and sonic journey.
“Nothing Stays Hidden In Daylight,” is set to be released through Trepanation Recordings on October 1, 2023.
