Skateboards, static sparks, and “Electric Chemistry” – introducing Brooklyn’s HOT HEAD

1 min read

Before Hot Head had a name, they had a routine. Weekends at Golconda Skatepark in Brooklyn—concrete, repetition, small victories. Bassist Janise Lazarte and guitarist Nadine Sta Brigida met there years ago, returning to skateboarding in adulthood without any particular ambition around it.

The connection was gradual: shared sessions, familiar playlists, overlapping reference points. Later, Janise introduced Nadine to guitarist Carl Morse, also from the same scene. Drummer Ilan Bemaman joined through a musicians’ forum.

By the end of 2024, Hot Head existed—formed less by any defined plan than by proximity, recognition, and time.

Their first single, “Electric Chemistry,” released June 6, 2025, reflects that same kind of slow build—less a breakout statement than a quietly constructed document of where the band is starting.

The track pulls from 90s pop-punk structures, keeping melodies forward and arrangements clean. Recorded and produced in Ilan’s Queens studio, it’s an internal process from start to finish.

Lazarte describes the song’s concept as rooted in a kind of emotional physics: “the static energy formed when you come into contact with another person of an opposite charge.” She explains, “The song grew from a mixture of my own personal experiences and imagined ideas of love. My hope is that when people listen to the song, they remember that feeling and smile.”

The lyrics aren’t abstract, but they don’t overexplain either. The song stays direct, focused on its emotional center, and doesn’t try to scale beyond what it is.

Three of the four members skate regularly, and that part of the band’s identity continues to matter—not as aesthetic, but as a framework. Hot Head’s next show is set for Go Skateboarding Day on June 21, 2025, at Cheese Rock in Williamsburg (221 N. 4th Street), alongside Momma’s Boy, Party Owl, and Prostitution.

The event is organized by Jesse from Party Owl and the band Prostitution, in collaboration with MMNY, and it’s been a consistent platform for bands with ties to the local skate scene. For Hot Head, it’s a natural fit.

The performance also coincides with the release of the “Electric Chemistry” lyrics video on June 20. It’s part of a rollout leading into the band’s upcoming EP, Burn Hazard, expected later this summer.

There’s no label announcement yet, no national tour plans. But the pieces are visible: a self-produced debut, a local network, and a sound that doesn’t disguise where it comes from.
