One of the standouts of New Jersey’s hardcore history, THE BANNER injected morbid, gothic vibes into metallic hardcore in the early ’00s – along with bands like INK & DAGGER, THE BANNER turned a whole new generation onto a tradition set forth by THE MISFITS in the ’80s.
Here’s the full press release offered by the label:
Now, well over a decade since its formation, The Banner returns, vital as ever, ready to push hardcore forward once again.
The connection between The Banner and Good Fight Music runs deep: Good Fight boss Carl Severson released The Banner’s previous two albums – 2005’s Each Breath Haunted and 2008’s Frailty – on his former label, Ferret Music.
Good Fight will release The Banner’s fourth full-length album, Greying, in the upcoming months. The band’s first album in more than five years, Greying was produced by Will Putney (The Acacia Strain, Poison the Well), also producer of 2008’s Frailty.
With the final touches now being put on Greying, The Banner reveals one new song off the album: “Crippling Despair.” Stream the track here:https://soundcloud.com/goodfightent/the-banner-crippling-despair
“Crippling Despair” gives a glimpse at what’s to come: ripping hardcore punk, cloaked in blackened bludgeon and mournful atmosphere.
The Banner founder and frontman JSS states: “Greying is a mix of Each Breath Haunted’s darkness and Frailty’s heaviness. To bring you this album we mobilized the same team that brought you Frailty: producer Will Putney and label boss Carl Severson. Greying is very much a continuation of everything we built in the last decade, pushing everything forward to create the best music we’ve ever made.”
Now, with an entirely new legion of young hardcore bands flourishing in its shadow – bands like Good Fight labelmates Old Wounds, for example – The Banner is back.
Stand by for more details about Greying, coming up on Good Fight Music, and look out for The Banner – now consisting of founder/frontman JSS, guitarist Garrett Defalco, bassist Steve Tanis, and drummer Jake Blochinger – on tour soon.
