Picking up a guitar for the first time at age 18, what has helped Walker keep going through life is his music. He melds alternative and progressive rock sensibilities with heartfelt, emotional lyrics in the hopes that addressing relatable topics through music can also help others walk taller and breathe easier.
After the past two years of touring, and self-promoting independently, Walker has signed to the independent DIY record label from Massachusetts, Sounds and Tones Records. The album was produced by Jake Detwiler in Philadelphia’s Fresh Produce Studios and will be duplicated by Wounded Galaxy Tapes.
“Island encompasses that feeling of not being wanted, and not feeling like you belong in the place that you are but still trying to search for a greater meaning to your life,” Walker said. “In a few words, Island is about social and bystander apathy, and many of my experiences I have had throughout my life and what has happened in the past two years while living in Long Island.”
Inspired by everyone from Circa Survive to City and Colour, the album oscillates between confronting these feelings of loneliness and isolation on the title track, to remembering unrequited love on “Freeze,” to offering a glimmer of hope on “Everything is Beautiful.”
“This album isn’t just a series of songs for people to have fun listening to,” Walker says. “It’s a story, a story of learning to love yourself and coping with feeling lonely.”
Island has received regional success in the PA and NJ area and has had over 250 copies sold independently. A Day Without Love is now joining Sounds and Tones Records to distribute cassette pressings of the record.
You can preorder the record July 1st on Sounds and Tones Record’s Storenvy. The record will be releasing on August 1st. The first run will be limited to only 25 navy blue cassettes, so be sure to get yours while they last!
