In a world spiraling into darkness, where the future feels like an Orwellian nightmare, Brazilian dark hardcore punk cult OBSOLETION comes with a stark, unforgiving sound. Their debut full-length album, set to release on October 11, 2024, through Sentient Ruin Laboratories, captures the essence of a bleak reality teetering on the edge of collapse. The second track, “Interdimensional Chaos,” stands out as a powerful embodiment of this dystopian vision.
As the band themselves put it, โThis is the song that best represents the imaginary/visual setting of the album. It is a blend of a cyberpunk, almost retro-futuristic scenario, where the combination of magickal practices with high-tech devices (something between chaos magic and the concept of hyperstition) represents the only viable path for survival.โ
OBSOLETIONโs sound is a ferocious amalgamation of influences, drawing from the raw energy of 80s NYHC and the primordial chaos of early metal, before the lines between thrash, death, and black metal were clearly defined.
The bandโs sonic onslaught pays homage to the glory days of hardcore punk and metal, with nods to the likes of CRO-MAGS, INTEGRITY, SHEER TERROR, MAYHEM, and CELTIC FROST.
โInterdimensional Chaosโ serves as a sonic representation of the albumโs themesโa harrowing blend of cyberpunk and occult imagery that feels as if itโs ripped from the pages of a dystopian novel.
The trackโs relentless riffs and brutal rhythms are like the soundtrack to a world where survival depends on a precarious balance between ancient magic and cutting-edge technology.
The albumโs artwork, crafted by Fernando Giotefeli, Jordy Kuster, and Josรฉ Vinรญcius, further immerses listeners in this dismal future.
The retro-futurist design, laced with elements of 19th and 20th-century occultism, echoes the albumโs exploration of themes like cyborgism, post-humanism, and the ever-encroaching surveillance state.
