Aaron Stauffer’s shares top songs of 2024, comments on humans’ love of competition

1 min read

Aaron Stauffer, known for his unique lyrical insights and fronting the influential band Seaweed, is back with a creative new project.

In our recent chat, Aaron shared details about his upcoming release—a track inspired by the duality of human competition and broader societal themes. Without mincing words, Aaron provided a vivid description of the concept behind the song.

“The tournament is about humans’ love of competition and games,” Stauffer explains.

He describes an imagined sport set in a remote valley nestled between two peaks of nearly identical height.

“Picture an new sport played in a remote valley set between to large peaks approximately the same height.  Each contestant arrives with a mountain bike outfitted with a taser stick powered only by the bike (no battery reserve) the goal of the game is to make it down the mountain and grab the purse of  silver coins set in a circle at the dead center of the valley and them make it back to the top without being tased by the opponent.”

This imagery mirrors the charged dynamics of public competition and mob mentality, a parallel Aaron draws to the recent American elections.

“I’m pretty sure it’s also about the recent american election and all public competition and the resulting mob mentality.”

Beyond his own creative ventures, Aaron shared some of his musical highlights from 2024.

His taste, as eclectic as ever, ranges from contemporary tracks to rediscovered gems. Check out his brief list below.

Aaron Stauffer’s favourite songs of 2024:

“Eyes” Ark Identity

The melody in this song is so catchy. This was my number #1 song to play pre and post surf this summer.

“Rio’s Song” The Hard Quartet

Brand new classic rock just in time for the last gasp of 2024 summer.

“A Fragile Thing” – The Cure

What a treat ; new cure album that comes across as Disintergration part 2 or modern Seventeen Seconds.

Old songs I discovered in 2024 and listened to a lot:

Flamin’ Groovies – Shake Some Action

This whole album is amazing..I don’t know how I never came across this but I feel like it’s a super garage pop gift from the past

Interpol – Untitled

What a great song to start a career. Again missed when it was originally released and only listened because when the Ghost Work album was released it was often compared to Interpol.
