Alt rockers TUNERS comment on new LP “Purity”, Greek alt rock scene, and more

3 mins read

Purity“, the debut LP from Volos, Greece based band TUNERS draws from a variety of alt rock influences, including britpop, indie and grunge infused rock. Filled with atmospheric and hook-laden songs, the effort stands up comfortably next to their late 80s and mid-90s predecessors, and to celebrate, we have teamed up for a special feature, presenting their profile, with special first-hand commentary, quick track by track rundown, their take on COVID-19 pandemic, Greek rock scene and more! Other artists recommendations and dedicated Spotify playlist included!

Melodic vocals framed by atmospheric music with powerful grooves, to complete the puzzle. Distorted electric instruments in punk style, modern acoustic sound and self-exposed lyrics that create a unique experience. Their esthetics could remind us of good old 90s Britpop and Indie music, expressed in a descriptive and modern way. Four guys with different experiences and music perceptions, come to interact together and give us their taste of love, pain, anger and frustration.

After a year of hard work and deep communication, Tuners are about to start their journey with their debut-album called “Purity”. Title, picture and sound combined perfectly, reflect the aesthetics of the disc and the need to avoid the narrow frames of daily routine.

TUNERS are: Theocharis – Vocals, Guitars, Achilleas – Guitars, Nicholas – Bass, Kostas – Drums, Vocals.

Track by track commentary:

Don’t leave me: A love song where frustration meets melancholy.

Fly: …and life keeps going with all the good and the bad times. Pain will get you stronger, there is always “something in the way”.

Those times: When an eye contact is enough to reflect your past.

Lonely: Life shouldn’t be like a free falling. Stop running, question your life choices.

Bad thoughts: When the lights are out, suddenly bad thoughts break out.

Strangers: So many faces around with their mouths kept closed. A social apathy!

Weirdo: Trying to prove yourself that you are someone else.

I wanna get lost: Too many people around, but no one’s there to understand you.

Highway: The desire to escape from the daily routine.

Timehole: Rough desires mixed with pure passion can immobilize the time.

Plans for 2020:

Unfortunately, the whole COVID-19 situation has canceled our planned gigs so far, we just hope for a quick and harmless end. However, we are about to notify our debut album, as much as we can, in every possible way. Music gave us a different perspective of life these days and we can’t wait to share with people what we have to say and what we are concerned about. What we love most is playing our music live, communicating with people directly. Also, creation never stops, it’s our way to survive. We will keep our jams going, framed with new ideas and influences.

Covid-19 pandemic

Covid-19 has taken a huge toll in our lives despite our efforts against it. We may’ve lost hundreds of people, some of them beloved ones, and went through hard times, but we’ll never forget having faith in humanity. Things gone truly bad, but life kept going on. The world was on a pause for a long time, as we were self-quarantined, in attempts to lessen the spread of the virus. However, each one had its different way to express feelings and thoughts. We shall never stop spreading what we are truly concerned about, through music or every aspect of life and arts. Otherwise, we are deep in danger.

Greek independent rock scene

Thankfully, here in Greece, people that frame rock n’ roll could be very passionate and you can infer that in every act that takes place. Unfortunately, the great majority is not into it, but we could say that “Few and good” is verified here. Over the last few years, Greece has been facing a huge economic crisis. Wrong policies made so many mouths ready to yell. The spontaneous and romantic way of these rock n’ rollers has always been a beautiful shelter for free and pure expressions.
