Des Cortez, Melbourne/Naarm’s indie-rock prodigies, are set to premiere their first release of 2024, the highly anticipated single “Ultraviolet.” Dropping today, this track marks the beginning of an exciting year for the trio, composed of high school friends Devlin, Paddy, and Sam.
Their journey began in their final year of high school, and they’ve since carved out a unique space in the indie rock scene, supporting acts like AGUNG MANGO, SUMMER THIEVES, SOUTH SUMMIT, THE BUTLERS, and THE RIONS.
“Ultraviolet” is the first of three singles preceding their forthcoming EP, expected in August. The track represents a significant evolution in the band’s sound, showcasing a more sophisticated and refined sonic palette. The single is a testament to their growth, blending catchy harmonies with jangly guitar sections that create a conversational dynamic.
Lyrically, “Ultraviolet” captures the exhilarating emotions of a young relationship, where every experience feels so intense it’s like discovering entirely new colors. This theme of youthful passion and discovery is set against a backdrop of infectious rhythms and melodic hooks, ensuring the song meets all the criteria for an alternative indie rock banger.
