BABYSITTER premieres “Envy”

1 min read

With their self-titled follow-up to 2012’s hit parade,ย Eye,ย theย BABYSITTERย boys bring their incredible knack for melody to sounds and subjects of a more experimental persuasion. While anthemic bangers such as โ€œExploding Youthโ€ and โ€œEnvyโ€ and jangle punk screeds such as โ€œHard Timesโ€ and โ€œMaintaining My Directionโ€ remain the bandโ€™s bread and butter, they are complimented on BABYSITTER by free-form freak-outs such as โ€œNeighbours Play The Worst Musicโ€ and downtempo genre exercises such as โ€œCandyโ€ and โ€œHippy in the City.โ€ The resulting album captures the BABYSITTER you can expect to see live: poignant and hopeful hits tempered by aggressive asides and humourous provocations.

โ€‹Babysitterย is Kristian North, Aden Collinge, and Andy Vanier. Recorded in the bandโ€™s new home base, Montreal, by Garrett Johnson (Brazilian Money),ย Babysitterย features long-time collaborator JLK (Moss Lime, JLK & the Assassins, Velvet Chrome) singing back-up and a healthy spattering of sax courtesy of Mr. Vanier. The cover art by comics icon Marc Bell (Drawn & Quarterly) mirrors the album’s attitude: at once unwieldy and visceral, psychedelic and masterfully crafted, beautiful and belligerent.
