Blackened noise / post metal act EDEN teases terrifyingly dark, demented new album “The First Circle”; new single streaming!

July 8, 2021
2 mins read

Skilfully combining caustic, abrasive and tormented black metal with demonic post – hardcore, industrial and noise, EDEN’s debut album is the sound of the end of time as told by a deranged mind. Today, we’re stoked to tease this addictively dark, fiercely experimental, noisy and just purely extreme offering with new track “Swallow Your Tongue”, created in a single recording session, just like the rest of the album.

EDEN is not just a band, but an artistic initiative blending sonic and visual catharsis in order to explore lunacy, terror and fear through the use and manipulation of unusual mediums, including recycled materials, bowed guitars and prepared piano altered with bolts and screws.

A suffocating nightmare made by layers of bone-shattering sounds and told by a monstrous voice lurking in the dark and screaming in madness – “The First Circle” is an uncompromising showcase of psychopathy in music, and a truly disquieting and frightening listening experience.

“The First Circle” is set to be released in digital format via Brucia Records on July 30th 2021.

For fans of: Terra Tenebrosa, The Body, early Swans

EDEN are: Vocals, bass, guitars, percussions (smashed plates, toy drums, jars, pieces of wood), prepared piano (altered with bolts and screws), distorted violin, noise sample, bowed guitar, ukulele. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by EDEN / Graphic by Cesare Bignotti / Produced by EDEN + Evokaos (Brucia Records)

EDEN is a collective of noise-makers: a collaboration project between various figures gravitating around the underground music scene whose intent is to create something frightening through the use and manipulation of unconventional mediums.

All songs are completely improvised and recorded in one take, using unusual instruments such as recycled materials, bowed guitars and prepared piano altered with bolts and screws.

Comments the band: “We have an abstract idea of music, and this idea is visual, greatly influenced by synaesthesia. This makes us perceive sound as an image, and vice versa, thus making sounds and images alternate like in a film, before we fix these images into music.”

EDEN is the soundtrack of a film that does not exist – a film that is only in our own head.

“Everything happens spontaneously, and this song – like the rest of the album – was recorded with unconventional instruments, recycled material, broken toys and other weird things such as a prepared piano altered with screws and bolts.”

𝑊𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑎 𝑝𝑢𝑛𝑘 𝑠𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑, 𝑠𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑟𝑢𝑚𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑔𝑢𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑, 𝑑𝑖𝑟𝑡𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ, 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑙𝑦 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡.

“There are also a few slower passages, but we feel they push towards a more deconstructed sound and in fact they provide a psychological heaviness that is in contrast with the speed of more post-hardcore parts.” – they continue. “We consider EDEN as a punk group for its attitude, but nowadays the word has lost its meaning; for this reason we prefer to focus on our sound, because all words today are empty.”

Asked about the content behing their abrasive art, EDEN says that their lyrics do not have a precise meaning. “We are fascinated by incommunicability, and by the chaos underlying everything, including the creation, which is chaotic and yet actually organizes itself in order to survive.”

“In “Swallow Your Tongue” we focused more on the voice, coming up with loops that created a sort of disturbing chant, as if it were a ritual to invoke the afterlife.”

“Words are not needed, at least they are not needed in this project: everything starts from reflection, from identifying with a person who expresses himself with grunts and verses but does so involuntarily thus releasing his emotions and bringing the singing closer to a performative action, a kind of ritual.”

“This context allows us to give vent to our bodily emotions, leaving to our unconsciousness the task of guiding us, and we hope listeners will also get lost in our music and then find themselves again.”

Two other singles, “Gehenna”, and “Your Void Is Mine”, are also available for streaming.
