Budapest hardcore/metal act GRIMCITY release new track & video for “Thorns”!

2 mins read

One year since the release of their debut EP “The Void” (stream below), Hungarian hardcore/metal act GRIMCITY (est. 2014) are back with a new single and music video called “Thorns”! Recorded and mixed at DarkSide Studio by Bálint Erdőhegyi and spiced up by a video by theRealJP recorded at Sidelight Photo Studio, the new track is intense as hell and promises a quality follow-up EP later this year. Watch below.

The band commented:

The visual concept of the clip was to create such a dark, blurred atmosphere that reflects the style of our obscure music. In the video – next to the musical shots – a main character faces himself and various symbols accompany him on the journey of self-recognition.

GRIMCITY is: Fráter Dani – guitar/vocals, Palkó Balázs – guitar, Nagy Gergő – bass, and Mattyasovszky Ádám – drums.

Walk on the lights of the Sun
Leave this world behind
Enter the gates of time
Leave your fears behind
Dig up the roots of life
For your own demise
Open the gates of your mind
Feel your vibes

This world needs no more lies
When the new king will rise

Grab the torch of pain
And set a fire
Tear up the dried wounds
Dig deep in them, liar!
On your knees and pray
For your high esquire
Finally your soul is free
Free from all the dust

I lied to you, Father
There’s no one, there’s no other
Life is just a prison
To escape I need a reason

Our band was formed at the end of 2014, and finalized the line-up in the beginning of 2015. Grimcity consists of Dániel Fráter (vox/guitar), Balázs Palkó (guitar), Gergő Nagy (bass) and Ádám Mattyasovszky (drums). After an intensive year of songwriting and rehearsals we decided to show ourselves to the public at the end of 2015 with a single/video entitled Circles.

Our music fundamentally builds on “traditional” punk, grunge and hardcore elements, but genres like grindcore, crust and black metal have also affected our style.

After our debut video we have spent 2016 with a lot of rehearsals and songwriting and started recording our first EP, called “The Void”. In the mean time we premiered our second video off our EP, entitled Soulcatcher.

Up until July we worked on recording, mixing and mastering the songs and finally we released
The Void with 6 tracks on 10th July. Recording, mixing and mastering was done by a good friend of the band in his home studio (Darkside Studio).

The EP’s lyrics cover a wide spectrum of feelings: dreams, visions, the lapse of time, childhood memories, important places, restlessness. The topics are mixtures of personal feelings and experiences, the album is basically “a personal journey to the emotional emptiness of four people”.

We started playing gigs February 2016, supporting such overseas bands like Kingdom of Giants, Shields, High Hopes, Canvas, Grieved or Hexis and we also played with such Hungarian acts like Testify, Orient Fall, Orion Dawn, Inhale Me, Dreadwolf, Lightchaser or Wasted Struggle.

We plan to release a new EP around September and make a small European tour in August with a fellow band to Austria, Czech Republic and Germany.
