CASPIAN – “Castles High, Marble Bright” video

3 mins read

CASPIAN have released a new EP and music video called “Castles High, Marble Bright”, an outtake from their recording session for “Dust & Disquiet”, discussed in this interview for IDIOTEQ. Watch below and feel stunned about how these guys grow older and how their adventurous music ventures further out.

The band commented:

Very excited today! The time has finally come to introduce you to some new CASPIAN music. “Castles High, Marble Bright” was conceived, written and recorded alongside the collection of songs that would become Dust and Disquiet, an album that we hoped spoke to the dialogue between a newly found, furrow browed melancholy and the fractured but unbroken sense of stubbornly epic, dramatically determined optimism that we’ve been trying to emulate with our music for 12 years. Hopefully we captured a bit of both. Looking back it feels like we captured the former, but “Castles…” speaks exclusively and entirely to the latter. With the end of this album cycle vaguely coming into sight, “Castles High, Marble Bright” is now our North Star, our way home, and our celebration of the decision to fully embrace the above dialogue head on together and see what comes. To the 6 of us, it’s an ode to adventure and all we hope is that it compliments or inspires one inside of you. Speaking of adventure, we brought our friend Ryan Mackfall (Live at the Larcom) along with us on our recent European tour last August to capture the experience visually. Ryan has produced an absolutely gorgeous, powerful, truly epic portrait of what the tour felt like. We are thrilled to premiere “Castles High, Marble Bright” alongside this short film. You all know the drill by now, if you can’t HD full screen and crank it up to 11, best wait until you can. We threw everything we had at this tune and the film.

On a bit of a different note, “127 North” is the sound of 6 guys playing in a room together on a Friday afternoon. In some ways the least ambitious thing we’ve ever committed to tape. Free from the grip of over arrangement, overdubs, click tracks, excessive chin stroking and the like, “127 North” is what a Caspian song sometimes sounds like in its infancy. It’s a vulnerable moment for us to introduce people to a song that exists in this kind of limbo, somewhere between improvisation and a fully composed piece of music. It’s an honest moment and all a part of the process, of course. Maybe it’s time to invite you behind the curtain a little… there’s some old couches, a few beers and maybe a few high fives back here waiting for you. Some days are less serious than others, and that’s quite alright with us.

Both songs are available on an 8” vinyl (limited to 1,000 copies) via our webstore and digitally through the usual suspects at iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, etc. We’ll also have copies on our upcoming tour with The Appleseed Cast (most likely in Houston and beyond). It’s our biggest headline tour to date across North America and it begins on Saturday in Washington, DC. Tickets are selling fast for all of these and there’s a chance you might get shut out if you don’t jump on tickets immediately. Alongside the new 8” we’ll have a brand new coffee blend, camping mugs, 3 new shirt designs, new hoodies, tote bags, custom earplugs, all of our records on vinyl, silkscreen tour posters… We are coming more correct to this run than anything we’ve done to date. Of course, the most important part of any tour to us is the time on stage, and we’ve got a 90 minute set ready to go that covers almost all of our releases and a few surprises. Hope to see you there.
