THE BLOOD BROTHERS have recently made a return to the scene after nearly a decade, launching their reunion tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their influential album β€œCrimes.” This tour began with a performance at the Best Friends Forever festival in Las Vegas and continues across major U.S. cities. The setlists have prominently featured material from β€œCrimes” alongside other notable tracks from their discography, maintaining the band’s reputation for high-energy and intense live shows.

Adding to the excitement, Cody Votolato of The Blood BrothersΒ collaborated on the single β€œGently” with SELF NEGLECT. The track has been made available online and you can check it out below!

SELF NEGLECT, an Albuquerque-based band active since 2015, has gained recognition for their exploration of themes such as trauma, guilt, loss, identity, and meaning. Their music is influenced by 1980s emotional hardcore, 2000s melodic hardcore, and screamo, creating a unique and intense sound that aligns with THE BLOOD BROTHERS’ raw approach perfectly.

The track β€œGently” features a gradual build-up that transitions into vicious sections marked by sudden shifts in tempo and intensity.

This track that mixes post-hardcore, grindcore, and noise is an epic addition to this tour, which still has most of the dates ahead. The next show is in Portland, and the full list of past and upcoming gigs can be found below.

We’re all envious of you lucky folks in the States who get to witness this live. You can now enjoy it with the accompaniment of the new recording and Cody’s iconic and unmistakable voice.

One of our favorite photographers, Becky DiGiglio, released a stunning gallery yesterday that captures the unbridled intensity of one of these early reunion shows.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn Vegan also ran a gallery from another recent performance on November 7th at The Belasco Theater in Los Angeles.

THE BLOOD BROTHERS originated in 1997 in the suburbs of Seattle.

Formed by vocalists Jordan Blilie and Johnny Whitney, along with drummer Mark Gajadhar, the group evolved from an earlier project named Vade. The lineup solidified with the addition of bassist Morgan Henderson and guitarist Devin Welch, who was soon replaced by Cody Votolato.

Known for their unique blend of post-hardcore and experimental sounds, the band recorded their first 7-inch in a basement in 1998 and quickly gained momentum. Their breakthrough came with the release of “Burn, Piano Island, Burn” in 2003, showcasing their chaotic energy and dual-vocal approach. Over the years, they released five albums, including “Crimes” and “Young Machetes,” the latter co-produced by Guy Picciotto of Fugazi. Despite their success, creative differences led to their disbandment in 2007.

The band reunited for select shows in 2014, including FYF Fest, sparking excitement among their devoted fanbase.

In 2024, The Blood Brothers reunited once more to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their iconic album “Crimes,” underlining their lasting impact on the post-hardcore scene.

Members pursued various projects after the initial split: Whitney formed Neon Blonde and Jaguar Love, while Henderson collaborated with Fleet Foxes. Gajadhar joined multiple projects as DJ Gajamagic, and Votolato played with Telekinesis and Cold Cave.

Their super distinctive sound, marked by dissonant guitar work and frenetic vocals, remains influential in post-hardcore and experimental heavy music.
