Emo / melodic post hardcore band SINK WITH ME shares new song & music video “Marionette”

1 min read

Sink With Me, the Concord, New Hampshire-based posthardcore band, have dropped their newest single, “Marionette.” This track delves into raw emotional territory, painting a vivid picture of betrayal and resilience through a deeply personal narrative.

Vocalist Evan Middleton, reflecting on the song’s origin, shares a poignant and unfiltered account of his own experience in a toxic relationship.

“In this song, I’m expressing my own experience of betrayal and manipulation in a toxic relationship. I opened up to someone, allowing them to see my vulnerabilities and the pain I was going through, only to have them turn it against me. They made me feel like I was ‘damaged goods,’ telling me that no one could ever love me the way I deserved.”

Middleton’s words outline a journey of emotional exploitation, where initial trust and connection gave way to manipulation. His description of feeling like “damaged goods” underscores the depth of psychological harm caused by such relationships, while the lyric “nothing left but my heart’s silhouette” conveys the profound sense of emptiness and erasure that defined his emotional state.

“What I once thought was a love story, something beautiful and meaningful, started to feel like a cruel game,” Middleton continues. This realization became the foundation for a track that is as much about reclaiming self-worth as it is about acknowledging the pain inflicted. “This song reflects how deeply I was hurt and manipulated, and the emotional scars that were left behind. But it’s also about the realization that I can’t let that person’s actions define me. The damage they did to me won’t be forgotten, and I’m finding strength in that.”

Musically, “Marionette” is emblematic of Sink With Me’s blend of raw post-hardcore intensity and melodic intricacy.

Drawing inspiration from genre staples like Underoath, Silverstein, and Norma Jean, the band combines driving guitar riffs, precise drumming, and a dual vocal approach that oscillates between haunting melodies and visceral screams. Their ability to balance aggression with introspection sets them apart in a crowded genre, allowing listeners to connect with both the heaviness of their sound and the weight of their lyrics.
