EXPECTATIONS and KING OF SORROW inhabit different realms of hardcore with a tightly focused message

1 min read

With intertwined band personnel but inhabiting different realms of the current hardcore punk sound, Sofia-based bands EXPECTATIONS and KING OF SORROW kicking off 2020 with a limited tape release featuring two exclusive pieces, written in summer 2019. Today, we’re giving you the first listen of their brief, but super tight and powerful 2-track split release!

“Paradise” was recorded by Mihail Slavov, guitarist of both bands in their shared studio. It was mastered by regular collaborator Marius Costache in Bucharest’s Studio 148. The artwork of the split was made by Georgi Ivanov, the illustrator, responsible for all recent Expectations merch designs.

EXPECTATIONS‘ ‘Burn’ is a song about change. The band commented:

About being forced to accept anything that life throws at you. We’re often pushed to accept the reality without having the time to react which endangers ourselves and those close to us. It slowly evolves from melancholy to an Expectations-style melodic outburst.

Inspired by visions and contemplations of self-harm and survival, in the transparent realms between between reality and dreams, ‘I Am The Knife’ shows KING OF SORROW reaching a more explosive and radical side of their metal-influenced hardcore punk.

In September 2020 EXPECTATIONS will celebrate 10 years of existence. Before that you can catch them opening for UK’s Polar on February 1 in Sofia. The band is currently booking a Euro tour for April. KING OF SORROW will be playing Sofia on February 28, while working on the successor of their 2017 debut LP “Bow To My Wrath”.

“Paradise” is released by Ugly and Proud Records on tape limited to 50 copies and digital.
