Swedish grindcore band Järnbörd is set to release their highly anticipated second album, Filmer för Blinda (“Movies for the Blind”), on January 10, 2025. The band has already launched the first single, “Okomplicerad,” and today we’re stoked to give you another new shredder called “Vi ska ätas, vi ska dömas”, along with the official music video.
Directed by Ulf Södergren and Mikael Dietmann, and edited by Dan Widing, the video is available above.
“”Vi ska ätas, vi ska dömas” (We shall be eaten, we shall be judged) is the second single from our upcoming album ”Filmer för blinda” (Movies for the Blind). The video was recorded in an antique books shop in central Malmö, Sweden and gives a preview of an album that many might not have imagined.” – says Anders Schärberg (guitar, vocals).
“The song is about how it’s often a better idea to keep your mouth shut. Since childhood, we have been encouraged to express our opinions, but sometimes, or often in some cases, it’s better to keep your opinions to yourself.”
Dan Widing (bass, backing vocals) adds: “The idea of recording the video in an antique books shop is in some way a comment and a warning. How would world literature have looked if we all lived by the principle that it’s best to keep your opinions to yourself? Even if the opinions in question go against the prevailing consensus”.
Filmer för Blinda marks nearly four years of meticulous production. The extended timeline is attributed to the band’s release of several split records and singles during this period, as well as their dedication to evolving their sound.
“What happens if we broaden the view of what our grindcore really is? Can we attack the songs from another direction – plank a Pixies stick, interpret Björn Afzelius?” Anders Schärberg, guitarist and vocalist of Järnbörd, explains the band’s creative process.
The album features collaborations with notable artists, including Anna Wagner from Dead Sleep on Björn Afzelius’s “Flickan i snön.” Other guest appearances include Mikey Lennartsson from Gamla Pengar and The Dahmers on “Rockar med Mammon,” where he delivers lines about having time to listen to Slayer.
Additionally, techno artist Johanna Knutsson lends her vocals to “Vi ska ätas, vi ska dömas,” a track that explores the theme of restraint in expression.
Filmer för Blinda delves into the human experience, capturing the spectrum of emotions encountered within a single day—from helplessness and joy to anger and love.
The album poses questions about coping mechanisms and existential reflections, encapsulated in its title, which metaphorically suggests that “nothing really matters.” Schärberg emphasizes the band’s intention to transcend the grindcore genre, positioning themselves as a conventional rock band with the freedom to address diverse lyrical themes, from raw capitalism to personal anecdotes.
Recording for the album primarily took place at Studio Covid with Niklas Ehrlin, except for the drums, which were recorded at Studio Tonhuvud by Hannes Heed. The final mix and mastering were handled by Ulf Blomberg at HoboRec Recording Studio.
Filmer för Blinda will be available on vinyl through De:nihil Records (Sweden) and 7Degrees Records (Germany), and on CD via Hecatombe Records (Spain) and Esagoya Records (Japan).
