FIN DEL MUNDO, the Argentine atmospheric rock band, has returned with their newest offering, Hicimos Crecer un Bosque, a record that intertwines the solitude of a decaying landscape with the strength found in togetherness. Released on October 18, 2024, this album stands as a reflection of personal and collective resilience, set against a backdrop of abandonment and an unforgiving environment.

The album’s title, translating to “We Grew a Forest,” is a fitting metaphor for the layered narratives running through the record. It speaks directly to the album’s core themes—resilience, hope, and collective strength in the face of hardship.

In Hicimos Crecer un Bosque, FIN DEL MUNDO expands beyond their previous sound, moving confidently into the realms of indie rock, post-rock, emo and dream pop, seamlessly weaving these genres into a sonically rich journey that grabs hearts.

FIN DEL MUNDO

The concept of the album revolves around an isolated protagonist who remains in a hostile cityscape while many of their loved ones leave in search of a better future.

The narrative is deeply introspective, yet rooted in collective struggle and hope. As the character reflects on their solitude and the devastation surrounding them, there’s a growing sense of unity with those who also stayed behind, their shared experiences becoming the soil from which a metaphorical forest begins to grow.

Yet, in this environment of loneliness, the character reflects deeply on their past, their present, and what’s ahead. They don’t give in to despair—instead, they hold on to the belief that even in the worst of times, growth is possible. That growth is the result of working and building together, with others who share the same struggle. Toward the end of the album, this sense of unity and collaboration finally pays off.

What was once a barren, isolated place starts to bloom, symbolized by trees rising out of the desolation—a forest nurtured by love and the shared effort to keep moving forward.

FIN DEL MUNDO captures that journey beautifully through their mix of post-rock, indie, and dream pop, all tied together with meticulous instrumentation and raw emotion. Each song brings you deeper into this narrative, and the band’s exploration of sound mirrors the character’s emotional arc.

If you’re curious about the full story, be sure to dive into their track-by-track commentary, where the band dives into each song’s meaning and how it ties back to the album’s overarching themes.

UNA TEMPORADA EN EL INVIERNO

The song title is almost a direct allusion to “A Season in Hell,” a poem by the French writer Arthur Rimbaud. We wanted to introduce more aggressive elements than usual. The tempo is quite fast, and the guitars are covered in overdrive for most of the song.

The lyrics refer to a mental conversation in which, through meta-thoughts, a person chooses not to be swayed by ideas or memories that lead to demotivation. They already know how and where their true essence is expressed, and in that realization, they consciously choose to stay true to themselves.

VIVIMOS LEJOS

This song features the elements we love the most: a powerful rhythmic base of drums and bass over which we build layers of intertwining guitars, evoking different styles and influences.

This time, all four of us decided to sing in unison with gang vocals reminiscent of Midwest emo, expressing the desire to be close to loved ones in a stormy context where one seeks refuge.

CUANDO TODO TERMINE

One of the album’s earliest compositions, it speaks about seeking refuge in nature, going far away from the noise of the city, feeling part of something bigger, and distancing yourself from what troubles you to see the forest, not just the tree.

REFUGIO

We really wanted to write a fully instrumental track for ‘Hicimos crecer un bosque.’ From the beginning, we internally called it “post-rocki.” We’ve always understood music as our personal refuge, which is where the title comes from.

The song goes through different stages and emotions, building up to a climax at the end. In terms of composition, we used a very dynamic drum base with time signature variations: starting in 4/4, switching to 3/4, and finally returning to 4/4.

DEVENIR PAISAJE

In this track, we wanted to significantly increase the BPM and use overdrive throughout the entire song, something we had never done before.

The lyrics talk about a missed connection between two people: expecting someone to be there during a difficult time and feeling that it didn’t happen, causing intense pain as you feel disconnected from that bond despite knowing you’ll always be there for that person no matter what.

EL DÍA DE LAS FLORES

This song describes a nostalgic, reflective landscape of the relationship between two people. The album’s protagonist feels they are not emotionally reciprocated as expected, exploring the anguish that comes from it: feeling alone in the middle of the city, longing for that shared refuge, and sensing that what was built in the past remains alive in memory, in a feeling, in the wind.

For this song, which has a strong dream-pop vibe and very extensive lyrics, we invited Guillermo Mármol from Eterna Inocencia (a huge influence on us) to accompany us on vocals.

The guitars have a very bright treatment, and the drums are extremely precise, although the bass carries the weight of the entire song.

MICROCLIMA

This song serves as an interlude in the album. We wanted to deepen the overall concept and do something different, offering our audience a more experimental, ethereal song.

The composition began with a 7/4 tempo and Juli’s guitar base; then we added the bass line, the other guitar, and some lyrics. The collaboration with Nicolás Aimo on synthesizers was key, taking the track to another sonic level.

VENDRÁ LA CALMA

This was the last song we composed, and with it, we wanted to convey a hopeful message to close the album: the character now feels in control and chooses to trust their instincts, knowing that something better will come. They are certain that they will move forward by building alongside others.

Musically, the song starts off as an indie track and gradually takes on more emotional and intense tones, with all of us singing together in unison to make it clear that we believe a better future can only be built collectively, not just by the desires of a few.
