Hardcore / grindcore quartet WANDERER share new video for “Bourn”; debut LP out now

Minneapolis, Minnesota hardcore/grindcore quartet WANDERER presents a studio-filmed video for “Bourn” – a track from their recently released debut LP, Liberation From A Brutalist Existence – through a premiere hosted by No Echo.

WANDERER is extremely thrilled to finally release a record that saw many delays due to the global pandemic. Delivering ten caustic tracks in just over twenty-three minutes, the lyrics discuss topics such as escapism, suicide, self-reflection, the concept of beauty, and existential trauma.

Guitarist/vocalist Brent Ericson reveals, “While writing this track, we referred to what is kind of our ‘philosophy’ when writing: doing the smartest dumb thing or the dumbest smart thing. The song has some familiar-feeling parts, but we also try to subvert your expectations at the same.”

In their recent glowing review of the record, No Echo writes in part, “On Liberation From a Brutalist Existence, WANDERER find themselves playing heavier than they ever have before as they expand their sound with elements of death metal and harsh noise… WANDERER are clearly pushing themselves and setting new standards for what their personal excellence can be which ultimately leads to questions of how they can continue to grow.”

Liberation From A Brutalist Existence is out now on vinyl through Entelodon Records, on cassette via Bad Mouth Recordings, and digitally through the band.

WANDERER is slowly making their return to the stage, having booked their first show since before the pandemic later this month. Expect new live announcements to follow over the months ahead as the band begins work on new material for the follow-up to Liberation From A Brutalist Existence.

Formed in late 2013, WANDERER deploys a caustic blend of d-beat-inspired hardcore/grind, drawing influences from bands like Converge, Cursed, The Chariot, Trap Them, Baptists, and Yautja, among others, the band creates a maelstrom of heavy, agile, and uncompromising metal/hardcore. Having toured the US in support of their previous four EPs including 2016’s Gloom Daze, released by Tilde Records, as well as having opened for bands such as The Body, Birds In Row, and Power Trip, WANDERER released five new songs in the form of an EP, Abandoned, in 2018. After more touring throughout the US and playing shows with Vein, Full Of Hell, Harvest, and more, as well as a Midwest run with Closet Witch, the band entered the studio in August of 2019 to record their debut full-length album with new vocalist Dan Lee.

Liberation From A Brutalist Existence was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recording (Sunless, Blue Ox, Void Omnia) with additional vocal tracking by Jeff Nicholas, artwork by Azeta Azadpour and Caleb Butcher, and design by Morgan Carpenter. The LP features guest vocals from Sanjeev Mishra on “Marionette,” Mollie Piatetsky on “Simone,” and former vocalist Brandon Carrigan on “Contented,” as well as producer Adam Tucker providing auxiliary percussion on “Simone.”
