HUNDREDTH Premiere New Song “Iridescent”, final song in 2019 Singles Series

1 min read

HUNDREDTH have been staying busy with their 2019 singles series and today the band have teamed with Alternative Press to premiere the final installment. “Iridescent” is a driving cut of dreampop that follows “Whatever,” “Cauterize,” and “Leave Yourself” (which earned praise from Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, FLOOD, Uproxx, and more).

This year’s singles have showcased Hundredth’s continued sonic growth, and “Iridescent” highlights the band’s ability to combine shimmering guitars and arena-ready drums into a sound that’s as lush and blissed-out as is it hooky and accessible. Alternative Press praised the band’s new direction saying,

Hundredth…are mining a field where the perception of alt-rock and pop are blurred significantly.”

Hundredth’s singles series is the first taste of brand new music from the band since their 2017 full-length, RARE, which propelled them into a bold new direction. RARE was a sonic rebirth that allowed Hundredth to move beyond their roots in aggressive music and evolve into a kind of vibrant shoegaze and driving alternative that felt both organic and daring all at once–exciting longtime fans and critics alike, and even landing on Stereogum’s Best Albums of 2017. With this year’s singles Hundredth continue to push themselves forward and revel in melody like never before–effortlessly conjuring the grandeur of classic post-punk and new wave (New Order, The Cure, The Chameleons) and the effervescence of modern synth-pop and dream-pop (Future Islands, Beach House). While “Iridescent” might be the last new Hundredth single for 2019 but the band are gearing up for a busy 2020 with more activity on the way, stay tuned for details.

Lyrics:

when you hold it close
it slips away

& what you guard the most
gets ripped the same

when i say i want to wait
another day
it’s really cuz i can’t decide

if we’re better off
to be lost so we don’t
ever realize

you’re on your way up
but you feel it but
you turn away

go down just try to
get you up
but you wanna wait

some things we didn’t want to say
are stuck in between the lines

free fallling now cuz we’re
hooked on synthetic light

an iridescent lie

watch it drift it away
oversaturate
but we’re lost in gray

when i say i don’t feel the rush of light
it’s really cuz i can’t define

if we’re better off
to be numb so we don’t
have to feel alive

you’re on your way up
but you feel it but
you turn away

go down just try to
get you up
but you wanna wait

some things we didn’t want to say
are stuck in between the lines

free fallling now cuz we’re
hooked on synthetic light

an iridescent lie
