Swiss post-punk, industrial-noise and shoegaze project Sauvageoness are premiering a film of the concert set they have been playing live for some time. Recorded at Bunker Paradise in Renens, Switzerland, “Into the Deep Woods • live session” is available in full on IDIOTEQ for only two days, 27 and 28 October. The complete film will be taken out of public view on the 29th. The full “RD E|A” sequence and three short excerpts will remain publicly available, and the film can also be obtained through the release.
“I want this release to be and remain strongly connected with the live aspect of the music. I want the film to be integrally part of the live album, and as music and the film go together, I want them to remain together on the physical body of the album too. Not like a consumable video from a live act you will see on your thread at 2pm by chance, because of an algorithm.”
The session was filmed and recorded in November 2025 at Bunker Paradise, Sauvageoness’s studio for many years. Carole Obère remembers the people who came through the room to record and work on different projects, and the music that brought them together. “This room is magical and has been my studio for long years. It is a place of Love. Making the film in this room was a great way to keep it forever in my heart.”
What Ecklonis Pourpier filmed was the concert set Sauvageoness have been playing on stage for some time, with its songs performed in their live sequence. For Sauvageoness, playing this set is a live ritual involving everyone gathered at a show. The social side of coming together to hear music matters too: performers and audiences share the experience of working through pain and change. At Bunker Paradise, the performance was what Carole called “shredding old skin and starting over anew”.
“Each time I go on stage and play my set I am changing myself thought the songs and their meaning and I free myself and transcend each time more the alienation processes I encounter in this sick society. Music and art are healing our souls. On stage, I embody this cathartic action of resilience. And because I do it, because we do it together on a show, together we strengthen this ability of transcending the pain and wounds inflicted by the reality of living in the societies we are living in.”
The title goes back to the writing cycle that produced “A Maze Deep In”. Before that work had consciously taken shape, Sauvageoness used the phrase “throw me into the deep woods to standing alone, on my own sweet” for the songs being developed. Part of that cycle became “A Maze Deep In”, released on 22 May 2026. Sauvageoness brought that earlier phrase back for the live album.
In the live set, “RD Paradise” stretches distorted guitars into extended, sustained noise; “Show Me Your Body” switches to jumpy guitar parts and a partly spoken vocal; and “Rather in Harmony” puts drum machines underneath grunge and shoegaze. Across these songs, Sauvageoness move between singing and screaming. “Into the Deep Woods” opens with “Bluette”, passes through “RD E|A” and “MARY”, and eventually finishes with “RD Indusbeast”.
“Also I love this setlist so much, I have carried it to the other side of the world and then in various places in Europe, I wanted to keep a beautiful track of it in this live album.”
Sauvageoness recorded the audio, with almost everything coming straight from the live performance. The few additions are backing vocals on one or two songs and a synthesiser in one of the noise interludes. The aim was to keep the actual order and less polished sound of the current concert set. Ecklonis Pourpier worked with several cameras, arranged the stage and its decoration, and handled the editing and montage in Lausanne. Together, they worked to “romantise” the filming and bring out the ritual element of a Sauvageoness show.
“This album brings something different than a studio album. This film was thought like a show, I wanted to get out of the strictly realistic way to film a show.”
Jack Shirley mixed and mastered “Into the Deep Woods” at The Atomic Garden in Oakland in December 2025, a month after the session in Renens. He had also mixed and mastered “A Maze Deep In”, which was connected to Bunker Paradise and Atomic Garden. The mixing and mastering went easily and quickly on both records. Their earlier discussions had already given Jack a clear understanding of Sauvageoness’s preferences. The main difference this time was the recording itself, made to keep the sound and structure of a live show.
The vinyl is limited to 150 copies, sold mainly at Sauvageoness shows and on Bandcamp. Each marble eco-vinyl copy has its own pattern. Atra Biler made the sleeve artwork as a visual piece of the film. Sauvageoness had made a record as a handmade object before: their 2024 release “PHOEBE” was a fanzine-album crafted entirely by Sauvageoness.
The full film is included through a secret link and download code with the relevant Bandcamp options. There are separate digital, vinyl, album-and-film and film-only choices.
The album was played in full at a Bandcamp listening party on 20 October, with Sauvageoness joining listeners online to discuss the songs. The complete concert film is now being premiered publicly for two days. After that, it remains available through the editions that include the film.
Sauvageoness supported the editorial time and scheduling for this feature. IDIOTEQ independently chose the angle and final text.
“Into the Deep Woods • live session” is released on 30 October 2026. Digital, vinyl and film options can be pre-ordered on Sauvageoness’s Bandcamp page. The complete film is public right here on IDIOTEQ only on 27 and 28 October; from the 29th, the “RD E|A” video and three short excerpts remain available online.
