Andrea Caccese used to be in an amazing folk rock band called I Used To Be A Sparrow, and now he’s back with a new exciting alt rock project dubbed DEAD RITUALS ! Slated for the official release tomorrow, September 25th, the record captures the immediacy of punk and alternative music. The band also incorporates the textures of new-wave, noise, and shoegaze.
The band’s goal is to create music without being restrained by genre definitions or idea – it’s all about following our instinct and trying to stay true to what we are! Today, we’re pleased to give you a proper presentation of the release, including quick track-by-track rundown, full stream and music video that supports the release.
Dead Rituals is an alternative rock band founded by Andrea Caccese. Over the past 15 years, he has been traveling and writing music with various bands and collaborators. This new project stems from sessions recorded in New York City, Melbourne, and Naples, amidst significant life changes. The bustle of downtown Manhattan. A remote beach town on the Pacific coast. Historic alleys and hidden pathways in the heart of the Italian South. Each place affected the songs, and each track explores different ideas, held together by the personal lyrics.
Currently, the band is in the studio recording more music to be released throughout 2020. Stay tuned and be sure to follow the band on Spotify!

RUN
Run is a track with a catchy and care-free vibe, inspired by punk and dream-pop in equal doses. The song has some energetic hooks and intricate guitar walls, with some experimental atmospherics in the background. The song deals with nostalgic themes, with a hint of hope for the future!
I think I found myself in the pale lights
I never thought that I could be alive
We’ve been drifting in the distance
Another wasted day in paradiseI think about the places we have seen
I thought I was awake but I’ve been dreaming all the timeCan we go now? Can we go outside and run
Can we go now? Can we go outside and runIt feels like I’m always stuck in a deadline
Caught in a friendly fire I know I won’t survive
I keep drifting in the distance
Another wasted day, but I won’t apologizeI think about the places we have seen
I thought I was awake but I’ve been dreaming all the time
I think I’m falling asleep but it feels so real
Don’t hear a sound, but I’ve been screaming all the timeCan we go now? Can we go outside and run
Can we go now? Can we go outside and run
Can we go now? Can we go outside and run
Can we go now? Can we go outside and run
CLOSER:
Closer is a fast, no-frills indie rock song with an upbeat tempo and some romantic lyrics. The track has a jangly, driven vibe, with a more powerful finale
You always get too close
But then you turn away
You lead me on for days again
I’m not good at conversation, there’s nothing else to say
Hold me down and don’t let goI wanna sink in a tire swing with you
Hanging on and on and on
I wanna be on a fire escape with you
High above the city lightsYou left traces of your curse
But I don’t believe in ghosts
Meet me in the darkest place
I’m not good at confrontation
I’ll let you have your way
Do your worse to meI wanna sink in a tire swing with you
Hanging on and on and on
I wanna be on a fire escape with you
High above the city lightsI think I found it
I think I found my way to your heart
MELBOURNE:
This is a haunting, nocturnal track, which reminds of artists like The Cure, but faster and angrier! The song is about wanting to be free from the usual pattern and constrictions of daily life.
All the wasted coastline has seen better days
I’m trying hard to see a change but it always feels the same
I’m going nowhere faster than the speed of light
Another year went by, I’m running out of timeThere’s gotta be a better way away from here
I’ve tried to make it home but we were never in the clearWoke up in the morning on someone else’s floor
I thought I couldn’t take it, but I only wanted more
Numb to my own memories, they’re fading out in time
I don’t really know for sure, I think I’m doing fineThere’s gotta be a better way away from here
I’ve tried to make it home but we were never in the clearThere’s gotta be a better way
There’s gotta be a better way
There’s gotta be a better way
There’s gotta be a better way
ENOUGH:
This song combines noisy guitar feedback with appealing melodies and personal lyrics, sort of like a mix between the easy listening nature of Blink-182 and the experimental sounds of Sonic Youth!
I surrender to the void inside my head
Cause I am my own worse enemy
Do you ever feel like you’re not yourself?
Playing a part for someone elseI’m never gonna be enough for you
Hanging to your anger in this lonesome place
I’m never gonna be apart from you
I’m running out of time, we’ll get there somehowI remember when the smoke filled the air
There was nothing left for me
I needed one thing
A place to lay my head
I don’t expect you to understandI’m never gonna be enough for you
Hanging to your anger in this lonesome place
I’m never gonna be apart from you
I’m running out of time, we’ll get there somehowI don’t even know myself
I don’t even know what I’ve becomeI’m never gonna be enough for you
Hanging to my anger in this lonesome place
I’m never gonna be apart from you
I’m running out of time, we’ll get there somehow
I’m never gonna be enough for you
Hanging to my anger like a prisoner
