Founded by all Italian longtime straight edge veteran scenesters, TWO WORDS started during the pandemic lockdown by Paolo (singer for Zero Eight One), as something that was intended almost as a joke. A rising star on the sXe hardcore scene was born on the ashes of some legendary bands like Think Twice, By All Means, Product, Ageing, Onfall, Substance.
Two Words’ debut 6-tracker recalls some of the golden age of oldschool hardcore and bands like Chain Of Strength and Youth Of Today, as well as torch bearers First Step, Carry On, or Betrayed. Asked about their beginnings and what gravitated the band’s members towards each other, Two Words explain that it all started when Paolo wrote to Freddy (former Think Twice guitarist) and to Steve (original Productโs founding member) to start a youth crew hardcore band and Paoloโs idea hit right in the target as Steve and Freddy were really excited about this new challenge and ready to turn the engine after many years. “After some callings, Gonzo (Think Twiceโs former drummer) joined the crew, thus the Two Words were born.” – says the band.
Asked about their locations and logistics behind the band, they share: “All band members live in different towns in north of Italy, except Paolo who lives southern of Rome, so is quite difficult to pratice all four together, above all is a huge problem for Paolo living so far away frome the rest of the band.”
“We started Two Words without a bass player, because we did not find any friend willing to join the band, so we kept rehearsing so far as a 3 piece band with no bass lines, except during the recording sessions (Steve covered this duty).” – they continue.
“Now, after a long research we added the missing member, Alessandro joined Two Words as our official bass player, right now. Paolo write all the lyrics, while Steve and Freddy write the music lines. Despite all problems and troubles due to the pandemic restrictions, family and works duties and the distance that separates us, our longtime friendship bound us together even stronger and keep us motivated and positive.”
“We recorded 6 tracks between winter 2020 / 2021 and Adam from Goodwill really liked and enjoined our stuff since from the start, so he decided to release our debut EP โPledge of Allegiance on his own record label Goodwill Records. The sound is a mix of classic oldschool sxe bands like Insted, Uniform choice but also Turning Point and Chain of Strength, with a mordern edge and filled with melodic breakouts here and there.”
