KOLLAPSE unleashes ‘Død’: a raw descent into sludge post metal’s abyss

KOLLAPSE have thrown a visceral punch with their latest single “Død,” a track from the upcoming album ‘AR‘ that delves deep into the psyche with its dissonant chords and aggressive rhythms. The Danish sludge post-metal trio’s newest offering is a foray into the darker recesses of human experience, reflecting a rawness that’s both intimate and expansive.

Peter L.’s emergence as a vocal powerhouse drives “Død” with an intensity that’s matched only by the complexity of Peter D.’s drumming and the bass lines that draw inspiration from Amphetamine Reptile Records’ signature sound. The single reveals the band’s desire to explore the bare bones of their music, pairing simplistic guitar work with intricate drums in a way that creates a compelling push-pull dynamic.

Comments the band: “DØD was one of the harder songs to write from a lyrical point of view. This is also the track that really introduces Peter L. as the second vocal pillar of Kollapse. He had done vocals earlier on Sult, but here he carries the song for the first time. As a lot of our songs, DØD was written around Peter D’s drums and has a basic start/stop dynamic and a certain Amrep feel in the bass parts. The bare bones approach was something we wanted to explore, and the somewhat busy drums push against the simplicity of the guitars in an effective way. This one demands a certain headspace when we play it live because of the subject matter, but no one said playing music should be comfortable.

The instrumentals are really pummelling and aggressively punctured, but they are also very melancholic. A lot of dissonant chords that sound like they’re being thrown down a flight of stairs. Peter L. had been listening to a bunch of SUMAC around that time, which really inspired the initial guitar-parts. As mentioned, lyrically the song is difficult. It was difficult to write, it’s difficult to perform, and difficult to discuss. They were all written and performed in the studio after we had recorded the instrumentals. This helped us push ourselves further regarding our lyrics and performance – it also forced us to evolve how we deliver vocals on stage.”

The track is part of ‘AR,‘ set to release on translucent pink and black vinyl, an album that promises to be a raw, unrelenting encounter with the more challenging aspects of the human condition.

KOLLAPSE has crafted an album intended to be angular and abrasive, forcing listeners to confront a sonic maelstrom filled with anxiety and ‘sonic grime.’ It’s an album born from personal struggle and the universal challenges encountered on the road, resonating with influences like KEN MODE and SUMAC while maintaining a distinctly Scandinavian edge.

“Død” is just a preview of what ‘AR‘ holds—a record that doesn’t just scratch an itch but burrows under the skin, offering solace to the lost and lonely.

With ‘AR,’ KOLLAPSE aims to bring listeners inches from the raw intensity of their performance, ensuring that the unwelcome, harsh realities of life are felt in every note and scream. KOLLAPSE isn’t just playing music; they’re creating a space for raw, unfiltered reflection.
