KOYO has dropped a new version of their song “I Might Not Get Through All of This,” off the upcoming EP Mile A Minute, out November 12 via Pure Noise Records.
This reworked track is a drastic departure from the original, shifting from the punchy pop punk of “I Might Not” into a brooding, atmospheric vibe that leans toward trip hop.
Frontman Joey Chiaramonte admits it’s one of their most experimental tracks yet.
He explains, “We wanted to rewrite an older song but really push it out of our comfort zone. ‘I Might Not’ was an easy choice, and we started with just piano and vocals. As it developed, layers of instrumentation were added. I’m not sure how our listeners will react, but this song feels right. It feels like October on Long Island—cold, introspective, and a little lonely. I hope people can vibe with it while sitting in their car, parked somewhere by the beach at 2 a.m., blasting the heat.”
KOYO formed in 2020 out of the Long Island hardcore scene, pulling together members from TYPECASTE, HANGMAN, and RAIN OF SALVATION. The band’s sound is steeped in the influence of local legends like TAKING BACK SUNDAY and SILENT MAJORITY, though they’ve carved out their own space with an emotionally charged mix of punk, hardcore, and emo. Their 2022 debut Would You Miss It? turned heads, blending heartfelt, raw energy with refined songwriting.
Mile A Minute keeps that momentum going, highlighting the band’s ability to play with dynamics. It includes “Ten Digits Away (Deluxe),” a stripped-down acoustic version of a fan favorite, and the title track “Mile A Minute,” which Chiaramonte calls a “massive punk anthem.” Reflecting on the songs, he says, “Music is always tied to time and place. Everything can feel dated quickly, but Mile A Minute captures exactly where we are right now. I hope listeners can dig into every detail.”
KOYO has been relentless in their tour schedule since releasing Would You Miss It?, and they show no signs of slowing down.
They’ll be hitting Europe in 2024 with FOUR YEAR STRONG and SHORELINE, including stops in Munich, Vienna, and Paris, continuing their push into the international scene.
