MARIDIA ascends: unveiling the ethereal heaviness of “Through Thorn and Bone”

May 5, 2023
1 min read

After the release of their first single, “Guts of Mammon,” MARIDIA decided to showcase a contrasting aspect of their creativity with their second single, “Through Thorn and Bone.” While “Guts of Mammon” features a more energetic and direct approach, “Through Thorn and Bone” presents itself as a slow, brooding piece that heavily focuses on melody, atmosphere, and space.

The track not only comprises some of the heaviest elements of their album, but is also considered the most ethereal and melodic piece they have produced to date. We’re stoked to gie you its first listen above!

MARIDIA band

Alex (lead singer of the band) commented: ”The lyrics for ’through thorne and bone’, is an attempt to examine frustration, anger, desperation, fear of loneliness, isolation and disconnection.”

MARIDIA

“It’s an unfinished contemplation of thoughts and philosophy, framed in the form of a dialogue within a fractured God. The shapeshifting narrator is trying to find meaning in, and sticking to, the crooked path of life. Living through and not against the world. Trying to identify with and become part of it, rather than judging and destroying all around. Trying to find history, purpose and their own traces, or those of loved ones. Sometimes remembering, sometimes not.”

“The singing part is some kind of poetical mantra. I dont know when I am going to die, but maybe I want to tell everyone in the future (without me) that I love them and it’s going to be allright. That I’m still gonna be around somehow.” – he continues.

“These lyrics kinda just poured out of me and there is some interesting drive and determination in there. I’m curious what it makes other people think of, so please talk to me if we ever meet!”

MARIDIA

“Through Thorn and Bone” shares a lyrical connection with two other tracks, “drift//drowse” and “…and rot and flowers,” from MARIDIA’s upcoming album, “Mouth of Ruin.” The album is set to be released on May 19th, 2023.
