It it my pleasure to present you “Your Badge Is A Burning Cross”, the first single from RUN INTO THE SUN’s debut EP, “The Spark”, recorded at Archive Recordings with Wes Johnson, serving a protest against police brutality, institutional violence and racism. The track is available in ‘pay what you want’ model, along with cool hoodies, with all proceeds being donated to Black Lives Matter, campaigning against violence and racism toward black people. The band will be releasing their debut full length “Songs to Light and Throw” this winter. Read the official commentary from the band and launch the track below.
RUN INTO THE SUN features our good friend Matt Mascarenas of WESTING, HEARTLESS BREAKERS and DAYTRADER, Dan Fletcher, Chase Taylor Griffis, Drew Davenport and Wesley W Johnson.
It’s no secret that our country struggles against systematic racism in so many ways. It pisses us off, and millions more, that good people remain silent about this: politicians, employers, police officers. These people see injustice and feel the hurt it bears, but fear the repercussions of speaking out against it. “Your Badge Is A Burning Cross” is a call out, specifically to police officers who refuse pull the card on the cowardly, racist thugs they call friends. But in truth, it goes out to anyone who observes injustice and looks the other way. What will you tell your children? Their children? Which side of history are you on right now?
Lyrics:
Another victim
More like a target
Of a system
Born to trap minorities in the marginsYour code of silence
Is only weakness
Proclaiming justice
As you destroy itYour badge is a burning cross
Your badge is a burning cross
It’s not on us to bear that loss
Your badge is a burning crossThe blood on your brothers’ hands
Spills from your mouths
Biting your tongues
To protect cold blooded cowardsYour code of silence
Is only weakness
Proclaiming justice
As you destroy itYour badge is a burning cross
Your badge is a burning cross
It’s not on us to bear that loss
Your badge is a burning cross
