Taking their cue from the greats of noise and punk rock, Austin, Texas based quartet SUPER THIEF have recetly unveiled their new explosive EP called “eating alone in my car” and today we’re pleased to give you their new deranged music video for the track “woodchipper”! Check it out and get more details below.
The new EP is available now via Learning Curve Records (vinyl) and Reptilian Records, who are offering a specially designed luxury compact disc package with a lyric fold-out mini-poster, featuring all ten tracks from the band’s 2017 album “STUCK” as well as this freshly-minted five track EP. The record is a wild and out of control shot of blistering noise rock infused punk that rages and burns with energy that’s missing in dozens of punk records these days. Here’s what Jay (drums/vox) had to say about the song we’re premiering below:
“I technically wrote this song about four years ago and put it on a self-released demo. I had just watched Fargo and the whole wood chipper thing just seemed like a very over the top metaphor for heartbreak or whatever. It remained in the wheel house of songs Cody and I would jam for fun when writing new stuff and we thought it would fit nicely on this release. I love when old solo demos become SUPER THIEF songs because everyone brings their individual voice and it really brings a new and (in my opinion) better quality to the song.”
Cody (guitar/vox) added:
“I slightly changed the words to Jay’s original version to allow room for interpretation. From my perspective, it was also about someone fleeing their home (Texas in our case) for somewhere else only to find out that things are just as bad there. Interpret it however you want!”
Video director Jordan Willis concluded:
“This video confused my editing software.”
“Erupting at two-to-three-minute intervals, the songs are steeped in dissonance, a fusion of driving melodies and eyes-rolled-into-the-back-of-your-head slow builds. Pointed and unconventionally melodic guitars combine with high intensity drums and unrelenting bass. The short sharp jagged boil of SUPER THIEF sets the air on fire, vocals jumping from spoken introspection to incendiary verbal detonations, blasting waves of intensity but never at the cost of a pervading melody or hook.” – Paul Stinson
“Students of the AmRep/Touch & Go school for noise rock, SUPER THIEF draw comparisons to bands like The Jesus Lizard, Hammerhead, and Tar, but their attack is more impenetrable, more persistent. There’s no lull, no restraint. When the band pull back ever so slightly from the carnage, it’s only to hammer in the reality of their earthquaking rhythms and rusted distortion.” – Dan Goldin (Exploding in Sound, Post-Trash)
