A couple of months after the recent premiere of their promising new track “Stuck”, and a follow up single “Hearse“, Philadelphia alternative rockers AUTUMN PYRE are back with the full stream of their new album “Weathered Glass”, a well-balanced offering about processing past experiences and growing from them. To celebrate, we have teamed up with the band to give you an interesting track by track rundown, explaining each of the new songs through their first-hand commentary below.
Weathered Glass leans into Autumn Pyre’s versatile songwriting ability with a blend of alternative rock, grunge and punk elements that create a unique and compelling sonic tapestry. The 7 songs on the album explore themes of loss, processing past experiences and overcoming trauma. Focus track “I Just Wanna Leave” is amongst the strongest statement pieces on the release, perfectly capturing the frenetic energy of the album and mixing it with a powerful lyrical sensibility. The album is a furious cacophony of sound, made complete by impressive performances from the rhythm section and shreddy guitar solos throughout. Lead singer / guitarist Giovanni Adiletta proves that his voice that wouldn’t be out of place on a mainstream rock record, while keeping enough grit in his delivery to give each song a menacing undertone. While comparisons could be made to stalwarts like Joyce Manor, Audioslave and Nirvana, Autumn Pyre is clearly on a musical path all their own.
Lead singer / guitarist Giovanni Adiletta has this to say about the album: “Weathered Glass is about processing past experiences and growing from them. Glass is sharp when it’s broken, but becomes round and smooth after it’s been weathered. I unintentionally used lyrics such as ‘set me free’ and ‘let it go’ on multiple tracks. After realizing that, it became clear to me that this record naturally came together as a way for me to therapeutically process the past. I spent a lot of time on the lyrics and got very personal, despite how uncomfortable it felt. Musically, this record covers a variety of my favorite types of music: catchy pop-rock, fast punk, heavy riffs and more. We are very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Jake Clarke (Superheaven/Webbed Wing) who recorded/mixed/mastered the record. Big shoutout to my bandmates Antonio Adiletta, Josh Nichols, Joe Livingston and Alex Kalatschinow. We’re very proud of this record and hope you dig it.”

You Stained My Name
Have you ever had to move on from a relationship or friendship that wasn’t working for both of you? You’ve moved on from the relationship, but you still might find yourself thinking back on it and wondering what they are like now and what it would be like if you reconnected with them. That’s what ‘You Stained My Name’ is about. Lyrically, it’s one of my most personal tracks on the record. Musically, it points in the pop-rock direction and is one of the most catchy tracks on the record.
I Just Wanna Leave
This song came together in a very unusual way for me — the idea for the verse came out of the blue one day when I was at work, and I came up with the chorus vocal melody on guitar. Some of my favorite parts are the distorted verse vocals, catchy chorus vocal melody and the simple guitar solo. Lyrically, this song is about feeling fed up with life and wanting to get away — “I just wanna leave”. Each of the four verse sections allude to one of the four elements: air, fire, earth and water.
Brain Bleed
Short, fast and loud – just like a firecracker. This was the last song I wrote for the record. It came together after months of frustration from finishing tracks and not feeling right about them – this one finally broke that streak. It’s about toxic media and how divisive it can be – “What you hear and what you see can really make your BRAIN BLEED”.
Pulling Teeth
This song is about betrayal. I’ve gone the extra mile for some of my “friends” and when it came time for them to help me out, they were no where to be found. It was a time in my life when I felt like no one had my back. It made me learn who my true friends are. Musically, I like when songs build up a lot of tension and resolve with big releases. To me, the outro of this track does exactly that. It’s one of my favorite parts on the record and one of my favorite parts to play live.
Hearse
This tracks includes some of my favorite lyrics and also some that I am the most proud of from the record. “Hearse” is about the struggles of granting forgiveness and moving on. It’s really easy for me to hold onto grudges and I’ve grown to learn that forgiving and letting go is important for my mental health. Musically, the track points in the riff-rock direction. This is one of our grooviest tracks. Hopefully it makes you want to bang your head. Definitely one we love playing live.
Closing In
The guitar part in the chorus was the first part I wrote for this track and at that time I gave it the working title “Closing In”. This was the first time I ended up using the working title as the final title for a song. “Closing In” felt perfect because the riff makes me feel like the walls are closing in. To go along with this theme, the lyrics paint a picture of the feeling of anxiety.
Stuck
This is the first song I wrote for the record and includes some of my favorite lyrics. It’s about how you can do everything “right” in society: go to school, get a job, get a mortgage, have kids, but still end up unhappy. At that point there’s not much you can do – you’re stuck. Thankfully, I didn’t make it that far, but I was well on my way. Working a 9-5 that I’m not passionate about and feeling like there’s nothing else I can pursue that would bring me fulfillment, until I found music.
