Poison the Well aren’t keeping still in 2025. Their new single, “Trembling Level,” marks the band’s first release since 2010 and channels elements from across their entire discography. It’s a thick, riff-driven track with piercing harmonics and a groove that jolts beneath Jeff Moreira’s raw screams. Midway through, everything recedes into a staccato bridge before one last breakdown crashes in.
“For me, I was trying to figure how to effectively incorporate elements from our whole discography into one song,” says guitarist Ryan Primack. “We ended up with this, and it has a little bit of everything we’ve done throughout the course of our existence.” Moreira’s words underscore that personal angle: “Lyrically, it’s about tackling a fear. I tend to write based on personal experience. You’re approaching something you’re scared to do, going through it, and realizing the hardest parts are actually the ones you should be looking towards because those will lead you to success.”
“Trembling Level” arrives 15 years after the band’s last official release.
In that time, Poison the Well went on hiatus in 2010, reunited in 2015 for select shows, and eventually decided to push forward as a full-time outfit again. They also signed with SharpTone Records, hinting at more new music on the horizon. The lineup is solidified now by longtime touring members Noah Harmon on bass and Vadim Taver on guitar, who have joined the band officially.
Back in 1999, Poison the Well released The Opposite of December… A Season of Separation, a record that profoundly influenced a new wave of metalcore. It has been recognized by publications like Brooklyn Vegan, Kerrang!, Loudwire, and Revolver, cementing its status as a crucial album of the era. Moreira reflects on its enduring power: “For me, The Opposite of December… represents everything I absorbed as a teenager: the shows, the music, the raw energy of hardcore and punk. I never imagined that record would still resonate 25 years later. Seeing people continue to connect with it inspires me every day, and I’m so grateful for the opportunities this band has given me.”
This spring, the band will celebrate that album’s 25th anniversary on tour, playing The Opposite of December in full each night. Glassjaw, Better Lovers, and Teenage Wrist are all confirmed as support acts, and Poison the Well have added new dates in Mesa, Arizona, and Lawrence, Kansas to the schedule.
Moreira says, “This upcoming tour is so much more than just a series of shows. It’s a celebration of that record, its impact, and the journey we’ve shared together. We’ve worked hard to make it special in every way — from the lineup, featuring Glassjaw, Better Lovers, and Teenage Wrist, to the merch, the setlist, and the production. It’s all about honoring The Opposite of December… and the listeners who’ve supported us through the years.”
