Glare’s first single, “Guts,” captures a heavy, all-consuming love that pulls at the mind. “Guts is about an all consuming love. One that’s exciting and new it makes you feel anxious. A love that feels like it could last an eternity,” the band says. The track’s sweetly chugging guitar line blurs the boundary between bliss and despair, leaving an uneasy warmth that foreshadows the mood of their forthcoming debut LP, Sunset Funeral, out April 4 on Deathwish Inc. and Sunday Drive Records.
According to Glare, the creative process behind “Guts” was anything but simple. “The song had several iterations before it was finalized. Months after getting the final mixes back, the lyrics were reworked and vocals were rerecorded. It’s a special song for us because we mulled over the tone, trying to get it right.” That persistence seeps into the final version, which bends between comfort and disquiet.
Sunset Funeral itself is described as a fog of dreamy grief, where feeling takes precedence over any strict narrative. It shares a kinship with Slowdive, Drop Nineteens, and Smashing Pumpkins—lush layers of guitar, crushed textures, and the sense of endless horizon. The result feels as vast as desert sand, yet claustrophobic in its emotional weight.
Pre-orders for the LP are available now at $25, alongside a “Sunset Funeral” hoodie.
The record’s thick atmosphere doesn’t promise easy catharsis, but it does reflect the band’s willingness to dwell in the tension between longing and release. Glare seems set on embracing the shadows, rather than running from them.
