This Friday is going to be a day the multi-Gold and Platinum punk rock band RISE AGAINST will never forget. Rise Against will see Nowhere Generation, its ninth studio album, and first for Loma Vista Recordings, released. In recognition of the albumโs release, and Rise Againstโs decades-long social justice and political activism that has long informed their music, Mayor Lori Lightfoot has proclaimed June 4 โRise Against Day in Chicago,” the city where the band originally formed in 1999, and where two of the band members still call home.
Today, Rise Against introduces โTalking to Ourselves,โ a brand new song from Nowhere Generation. With its surprising pop candor, โTalking To Ourselves” is a stand-out song about wanting to be heard and wondering if anyone is listening. You can stream the song HERE; the trackโs live music video can be seen above.
Over the years, many journalists have identified Rise Against as โcontroversialโ or โradical,โ their music being โboldโ and โbrave.โ But the bandโs lyricist, Tim McIlrath begs to differ, and โTalking to Ourselvesโ is a prime example of that point of view. “Iโve never thought of our songs as โbrave’ or โbold,’ said McIlrath, โI think of them as just common sense. When you feel that no one is listening to you, you tend to talk louder, and when you feel no one notices you, you start doing things to get their attention. Thatโs what this song is about.โ
Meanwhile, Rise Against have announced a short run of stripped-back intimate in-store events for November 2021. Rise Against will appear at the following:
