SAY ANYTHING returns with “Psyche!”, first new music since 2019’s would-be swansong

1 min read

Say Anything have returned with their first new music as a collective since the near swansong of 2019’s “Oliver Appropriate.”

Dubbed “Psyche!,” the track sees frontman and creative mastermind Max Bemis reunited with original drummer Coby Linder, as well as former bandmates Alexander Kent and Parker Case, and now featuring the production chops of Brian Warren (Weatherbox) and Fred Mascherino (The Color Fred, Taking Back Sunday).

Opening with Bemis’s signature snarl, the song immediately sets a tone of rebirth and renewal, declaring, “We are born again. We’ve died and sprung to life, so wet and fresh.”

Throughout the track’s six-minute runtime, Bemis employs a stream-of-consciousness approach, littered with self-referential nods to contemporaries in the pop-punk scene such as Saves the Day, Blink-182, and Chris Carrabba’s Twin Forks project.

The end result is a triumphant return for one of the most beloved bands from the early-oughts alternative rock scene, brimming with attitude and a renewed creative spark.
