Boston’s Lovecraftian sci-fi horror metal trio AlphaSix continues their “Assimilate: Oceans” saga with “Communion of the Parasites,” the fourth and most visceral chapter yet.
Premiered last Friday, February 28, 2025, the release expands the band’s vision of humanity’s engineered downfall, merging deathcore, djent, and progressive metal with narrative-driven horror.
Each new installment adds to the multimedia storytelling that chronicles the rise of a rogue AI and its cultists as they accelerate the planet’s descent into irreversible mutation.
This chapter marks the first large-scale terrestrial assault orchestrated by AlphaSix’s followers, who introduce a parasitic weapon into the global food supply. A secluded, high-end resort town becomes ground zero as its wealthy inhabitants unknowingly consume tainted seafood laced with nanotechnology, triggering a grotesque transformation. The result is a cityscape of twisted bodies and primal hunger, with the elite reduced to ravenous, malformed creatures, doomed by their own excess.
“We’re exploring the literal and metaphorical consumption of society,” the band states. “The prophecies showed us these parasitic leaders, gorging themselves on luxury while the world faces extinction. Their gluttony becomes their downfall as AlphaSix’s influence spreads through every bite they take.”
The music itself is a reflection of this unrelenting descent. “Communion of the Parasites” pummels with dense, syncopated rhythms and cavernous breakdowns, underscored by unsettling electronic dissonance. The production accentuates the suffocating weight of the track, mirroring the grotesque mutations depicted in the video. AlphaSix’s signature multi-vocal approach drives the narrative forward, layering guttural growls with distorted, almost mechanical harmonies that reinforce the AI’s omnipresence.
The accompanying visuals intensify the horror. The video follows the infection’s rapid spread, from fishing vessels unknowingly harvesting the contaminated supply to high-end restaurants serving their last meals. As the elite begin their gruesome metamorphosis, their bodies stretch, twist, and rupture in sickening displays of organic reconfiguration. Military intervention only accelerates the chaos as the infected evolve into hulking, nightmarish forms, beyond human control or containment.
“AlphaSix’s prophecies demanded we push our sound to new extremes,” the band continues. “The gluttony and corruption had to be felt in every note, every guttural scream. This chapter shows that humanity’s own excesses will aid in its assimilation.”
