This year SILVERSTEIN are celebrating their 20th anniversary with the release of their latest full-length, A Beautiful Place To Drown, out now from UNFD. The long-running band have been staying busying despite their tour plans being postponed, recently sharing their “Quaranstein” video which featured five performances of songs from across their catalog along with guest appearances and more. Those performances are now available as a digital EP with all proceeds going to the NAACP and Black Legal Action Centre. The band have also announced a special livestream event on July 19th at 4pm EDT which will feature professional video and audio.
Today Silverstein are back with an alternate version of their song “Where Are You” recorded during the sessions for A Beautiful Place To Drown. The original track exemplifies the album’s blend of aggression and modern production flourishes, while this new take strips back the distortion to emphasize the melodies at the core of Silverstein’s songwriting. The lush instrumentation highlights the band’s willingness to push their sound into new territory while always maintaining the emotional core that’s made them one of their scene’s most beloved bands.
“…even so many years on, Silverstein still sounds the best they ever have…” – NYLON
“[Silverstein] have risen from their underground roots to the top of the emo and post-hardcore genre…” – Billboard
“Silverstein effortlessly create a blended sound while staying true to their roots…” – Alternative Press
Silverstein vocalist Shane Told discussed the new version of “Where Are You” and the upcoming livestream saying:
“Despite not being a single ‘Where Are You’ was one of our favorite tracks on A Beautiful Place To Drown. We decided to put a different spin on it and show how its composition can shine both as a heavy, riffy jam, and also as a chill, reflective arrangement.
And after such great feedback from Quaranstein, recorded live from our homes, we wanted to plan something special when it was finally safe for the five of us to get together. So here is a ‘Next Level’ livestream, using the best sound and video equipment available to capture the ultimate performance of our classic songs. And get ready for some surprises, this will be unlike any live stream you’ve seen before.”
A Beautiful Place To Drown debuted on seven Billboard charts (including #122 Top 200, #5 Rock Albums, and #3 Current Alternative) and fittingly encapsulates the best of Silverstein while pushing their sound into daring new territory. The band may be proud torchbearers of the emo and post-hardcore scenes but appearances from artists that range from Princess Nokia to Underoath’s Aaron Gillespie, Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo, Simple Plan’s Pierre Bouvier, and more, are indicative of Silverstein’s wide-reaching impact and their ability to reach listeners in all worlds of music. The album captures this appeal in its dynamic range of sounds and styles, all made cohesive by the performances of Told, guitarists Paul Marc Rousseau and Josh Bradford, bassist Billy Hamilton, and drummer Paul Koehler. Silverstein pushed themselves lyrically as well, exploring the mental duress that seems to be inextricable from the personal and societal challenges of modern life, often focusing on external perspectives and even political elements without losing the band’s trademark intimacy. A Beautiful Place To Drown is sure to please old fans and new ones alike, proving exactly why Silverstein remain a vital and powerful voice in alternative music and beyond.
